For people who know Seoul well:
I am thinking of taking some language courses at Yonsei, and then some courses at SNU. Where would be a good place in between these two unis to live, so that neither is too much of a pain in the butt to get to? (I commuted between Yonsei and SNU for a week a few years ago, and it was exhausting). |

Logic would put you on the green line at a half-way point, maybe ShinDoRim or DaeRim Stations. However, those neighborhoods aren't the best to live in. Hate to say it, but especially if you're on a budget, you're probably going to be better off in Itaewon/NokSaPyong. Odds are there are busses running directly to SNU and Yonsei from near there, and the subway runs would be easy. The other upside is that you'd probably end up paying less, too.
Honestly, it'd be better to pick one of the two schools and just do your course work and your language work at one place. Good luck to you. |

Yes, I'd agree that it'd be better to just pick one place...but I'm signed up with my fellowship-provider as going with Yonsei, and now I'm a bit worried as I've heard some not-so-positive stories. (Sogang isn't an option as I've already done that- I need one that is more geared towards academic reading and writing). SNU is not really listed as an option for this fellowship so if I want it I'll have to push. I think I would much rather live in the SNU area (I love the campus) than in the Shinchon area (I've gotten so sick of the crowds and noise that occurs when so many universities converge). I just know so little about SNU's program. I may need to start at Yonsei, and if I don't like it, then switch (to justify my decision). But of course it would be better to do just one...
Who here has studied in SNU's language program??? (I've already seen all the comparisons of Yonsei and Sogang). |

I'd check out the guro digital complex area. It's now called gurogongdan. It's moderately lively, and there are tons of reasonably priced apartments. It's also about half way between sinchon station and seoul dae station. |

Guro Digital Danji --in English: Guro Digital Complex--(used to be called Gurogondan) is a *hole*! I refuse to live there.
Sindorim is now a nice neighbourhood after about 5 years of solid contruction and building. After having lived for five years in Sindorim-Dong, I'd definitely recommend it. But there isn't much in the way or rent around there, mostly full-sized apartments. However, there are good priced (for rent) loft type apartments near Guro Station.
But I think you're best living near one or the other of your universities. Nakseongdae, is a popular area for student sized apartments, and is only one stop from SNU station (some can be really small though).
Or, in the Hongdae area, if you go toward Sangsu Station area, it's quite nice. Within walking distance to Hongdae, but without the noise and commotion. Not sure what is on offer there for rent.
Your best bet is going to an area and finding a local budongsan (real estate agency). They are ubiquitous in Seoul. |

An old topic but Nakseongdae is actually closer to SNU than SNU station. Just take buss number 2 from Nakseongdae and you will be really fast at the university. You also then skip the trafic jams on Fridays |

I'm considering a position in the Sindorim areas, glad to hear you'd recommend it because i've heard otherwise from several people...apparently it's not the greatest area for a young woman to live alone....? have any thoughts on that? |

Daeheung is not bad. Not far from Yonsei and sorta quiet. It's a bit old but I bet it's cheap. |

I know plenty who do, though not in Villas. If you're in one of the big apartments or Officetels you'd be fine.
I really like living in Sindorim. Just a short taxi ride home from Shinchon, good sized cheapish apartments and good shopping. Also, the CGV there pioneered the beer combo. |

I'd choose GyeongNiDan (경리단). It's the area just north of Noksapyeong station on line 6. You're close to Itaewon, and there's a ton of foreign and Korean places in the neighborhood. You are around foreigners but it's not completely so. You can get to Myeongdong, Gwanghwamun, Hongdae, Sadang, Gangnam, Dongdaemun, etc, all in a short time and they have services in English for phone, cable, etc. |
