Hey!!
I need some advice Sad
I was working in a really crap school in Ulsan.
I wanted to leave 6months into the contract - but decided to stick it out...being a qualified teacher i felt i couldn't let the kids down...and as the director didnt give a [Mod Edit] bout them i felt someone had a care!!

Anyway i'm drifting here.....so i finished my contract and the school didnt pay us right at the end - gave us our bonus but not our full final month pay! i wasn't gonna sit back n jus let him take the money so i fought for it and the arguement turned a lil heated...anyway i didnt get my money and i just left - couldnt be bothered to fight anylonger and needing to finish packing!!

Now im looking to return to Korea and my recruiter told me that they have to contact the school to speak to them etc...so i let them. Now they have said they are unable to work wityh me :S

Am i screwed now?? will i be able to get anyone to work with me after this school has obviously blacklisted me??
or can i not disclose that i worked in this school??

Blacklisting is a two way street. Post the schools name and directors info to any blacklist site you can find. I don't know the addresses of them, but i'm sure someone on here does.

Just don't list them as a reference.

the school have already been blacklisted really badly by two of the teacher who left 2months before i did...

i am just worried that all the recruiters will ask about me experience...and will ask for reference letter or to contact the school....is it bad if i don't say that i worked in korea before??

There are no official blacklists... the ones discussed don't matter. Immi likely keeps a file but gossip or labor problems doesn't seem to be entered.

Be upfront with the recruiter, maybe show them the school's listings on those sites. They are aware that hogwans can be bad as well.

Plenty of schools don't contact your past employers. A good face-to-face interview will seal the deal. You'd have to be in Korea to do that though. If you have the funds to do so, come over and look around.

Other than that, keep plugging away with different recruiters.

If I were you OP, I would never have listed a bad reference in the first place. You had a confrontation with this school, so you'll have to strike it off your reference list; especially for jobs in Korea. Furthermore, you can get another job without using that school as a reference anyway. Good luck.

Just find another recruiter. My references have only been contacted once in 6 years in Korea - and that was my application for Grad School

It sounds like it was his first school in Korea... in that case, it hurts to leave it off the ol' CV and advertise yourself as a newbie. I'd just be honest and say that the school was run by a bunch of jerks, offer URLs to other teacher's comments (if appropriate), and cast a wide net.

Either that, or just cast a wide net anyway (contact lots of recruiters), and just wait for someone to not bother contacting your previous employer.
