Look at the photo of him when he was at his peak, and then the recent photo of him. How did such a handsome chap end up looking like Gollum?

I remember seeing him on the telly from time to time when I was a kid. He was a working man's hero. What a sorry end.

I hung out at a bar in Belfast a couple of times where he was a regular. Never saw him, but a couple of people there mentioned his habitual alcaholic excesses. I think he was basically broke most of the time.

Yeah, a drinking habit can age someone well beyond their years.

I freely admit I'd never heard of him till now.

But he seems to have been a stand-up guy...assaulting referees, threatening the lives of other players....
