Has anyone used pay pal with their Korean bank account? I've been using my Bank of America account from back home to do it, but it sucks having to transfer money just to fill up the account.
So, does anyone use one from a local account? If so, which bank and what kind of account? Because I prefer using it over a credit card for most online purchases...

Cant be done! 
I do the same -same transfer it home period load from there.
I even called Paypal lol
But big issues with K-banks in giving us International Debit cards which you need to link to paypal.
Plus I will not get started on K-banks and internet banking] |

Odd, I just transfered $1000 USD to my Korean KEB Checking account from Paypal. |

Honestly, not sure how I did it. When I first set up my paypal account, I set it while I was here in korea. It's always had Korean currency as the secondary option (behind USD). So, when i recently added my bank account (you do the little $1 VISA charge), I used my Korean VISA card and everything went through.
To tell the truth, I would have liked to add my Canadian bank account as well, but it would not give me that option. My addy is in Korea and Korean accounts seemed to be my only option. |

That is not a Korean Paypal account though, is it? I tried to open a Korean Paypal account to no avail, even though Paypal initially told me I could. After the first unsuccessful attempt, they told me the number was wrong and that I should verify it with the bank. I knew it was right but went through the motions anyway. It turns out that the system rejects your Korean ID when it is an ARC number (even though it looks like the correct format). I got back on the phone to Paypal to berate them for not knowing that foreigners cannot open Korean Paypal accounts and for my wasted time.

hmm..I don't want to put money into a Paypal account (well, I guess I will if I have to.) But right now, for my US paypal account, it just automatically withdraws money from my US bank account whenever I make a purchase.
For adding your Canadian account....Just start another paypal account under a different email address - unless you want to use it to move money between Korea and Canada. Because I believe you can only have a paypal account in only country (and only bank accounts from that country). |

I entered my ARC number when entering my bank info... and it was accepted! I was surprised as well, but I do remember having to take out the dashes or something.
Huck, yeah, I think I'll have to do that if I ever want to send money to Canada. |

| I spoke with PAYPAL. They said that you can receive using PAYPAL in Korea but you cannot send from a Korean bank account. |

People have asked this question quite often and I think for the most part the answer is no. I'm a little surprised CC was able to do this, but then again he's been here for awhile. My understanding is they have been making it tougher to do this for fear people will get around the transfer limits (meaning the limit of $10,000 without proving where the money came from).
Capt Corea, did you use a debit card or credit card? |

I used a (Korean) credit card that is linked to my KEB account.
Also, I want to be clear, I was transferring money from my Paypal account (made from online art stuff) to my Korean account. I've done it a number of times and have had no problem with it... other than the crap exchange rate. |

I pay all the time with my Korean credit card (linked to my Korean bank account).
I think the extra buffer zone of the CC is why Paypal allows it. |

So that is a Korean and not American (or other) Paypal account? Maybe you were luckier because you linked it to a Korean credit card. It still will not let me link my Kookmin account. Also, Korean won was never offered as an option for me. Weird. |

Captian Corea can send money TO his Korean bank account.
The OP (and everyone else) wants to send money FROM their Korean bank account.
Big difference. I wonder why PayPal's against it? I tried doing it a couple years ago as well. |
