I'm curious as to the feasibility of securing an international school teaching position with NO experience. I have the qualifications and certificates necessary (i.e. BA, BEd, Licenced by my province in Canada as a high school teacher), but I, perhaps foolishly, came to Korea to teach English for a bit just for kicks. It's been two years now, and I really enjoy the country and don't want to leave, but I think I'm done with the EFL bit - it's not a career move. I've been looking at international schools, but most require a minimum of 2 years of experience. How firm is that? Am I in a pretty impossible situation as far as finding a job for the 2010-2011 school year? Any information would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Why not try to apply to the lesser in demand schools? Also mentioning your teachable subjects might help as well.

For most in demand subjects even with 2 years of experience that doesn't mean you are going to get a position.

Now is the time to be applying though.

by all means, apply!!

I just graduated in May of 09' and got my first job in an International School. Granted, we're on our way to accreditation, or so my boss says, but in my opinion it's still better than any hogwan or public school job (no offense anyone). You never know what you'll find out there. You have the experience, and the qualifications, the only thing holding you back is you. Good luck! Cheers
