I've read the stickies and posts till my eyes are burning, but it's still not very clear.
1. As a US citizen, will I be allowed to enter with a 30 day tourist visa? (I did this back in 2004 and understand it's changed, but what grounds would immigration at the airport have for denying me entry?) If Immigration asks, I will tell them I will be looking for work.
2. Does my University degree need to be 'apostillized'? or does that just apply to the Criminal Background Check? (there would be no way to get my degree apostillized if it means going back to my university 2000 miles away.) or do both of those things need apostillization? (my uni has given me multiple sealed transcipts AND sealed verification letters.)
3. Assuming I get into the country, find a job, have all my documents in order, can't I just go to Japan for two days and get my E-2 visa like I used to do?
I realize these questions have come up before, but pretty much all the threads have conflicting info. cheers. |

Don't tell them you are coming to look for work! Only your cbc needs to be apostillized. As far as doing a visa run, you should be ok if you have all the documents. But, don't quote me on it. |

I had to have my degree apostille thing. You don't have to go to the uni., just your sec. of state. Here's a thread, read down:

I certainly wouldn't tell them you're to look for a job.
So you had an E2 before? Then it seems that you can do a visa run to Japan.
If you haven't had an E2, then you may be able to get your docs verified and forego the in-country interview:

or so the above site says. |

You might even get 90 days.

A copy of your U. Degree needs to be apostilized. DO NOT apostilize originals. Apostilization is exactly that, making copy's as official alternatives.

1. I think Immigration could deny you entry if they ask to see your return ticket (actually an onward ticket out of the country) within the alloted time of your tourist visa and you aren't able to produce one. Then again, some airlines will not let you board a flight to Korea on a one-way ticket (when entering on a tourist visa). If this is your plan, make sure you confirm with your airline. |

Korean Air won't let you fly to Korea on a one way ticket.

Interesting. I flew from San Francisco (I'm Korean-American) with a one-way ticket (no job lined up in Korea, no work visa etc) with Asiana Airlines and had no issues. My travel visa as good for 90 days. I got an F-4 while here within a month or so of being in Korea, then they stamped my passport stating that I didn't need to leave the country before my allotted 90 days were up.
Maybe I wasn't harassed about my one-way ticket because I look ethnic Korean? Maybe more flags would be raised if a Caucasian had a one-way ticket? |
