|
|
So please keep the snide Dell comments and such to yourself, I only used them as a benchmark.
I was recently looking at the Dell Korea website and saw a Studio 15 laptop for ~1.1M won. I couldn't find the same exact system at the Dell US site so I configured one on the Dell US site to have the same configuration and the Dell Korea site had the same laptop for a small discount. I decided that maybe I'd want 6GB of ram instead of 4GB. It having Windows 7 and all, and I generally like to have more ram in my computer than what is currently popular to have. Well changing the RAM from 4GB on the Dell US laptop bumped the price up by $85. Doing the same for the Dell Korean laptop? 479,600won!!! or approximately $400! Almost everything between the two laptops were equal in price until the memory upgrade!
Can anyone explain why the huge price difference? Isn't Korean known for making cheap memory? My only guess is that the motherboards are different and the Korean Dell has 2 total slots while the US Dell has 3-4. I can't imagine the labor causing the price increase. Changing the memory on a laptop should take minutes. Anyone have a clue?

Not sure why. Maybe emailing Dell Korea and Dell USA can help answer your question.
I know Nikon Canada and Nikon USA have huge price differences. I emailed the marketing director of Nikon Canada about this, and she told me it was due to marketing differences. In other words they charge more because they can. At least she was honest. |

Because at that configuration, they are now considered a competitor to overpriced Samsung and LG Xnote "higher-end" models. Those companies are chaebols, and basically have control of the gov't here, so they make such things the norm.
They want to be able to suck premium won out of people attempting to buy a better-than-average model, and will surcharge the hell out of people for it.
Either Dell is forced to do so through some backroom agreement, or they're just joining the party and screwing the locals for every won possible. |

| I absolutely despair over the state of pricing and competition in this country. It's almost as much of a rip-off as the UK. |
