Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone knows if you can get a job teaching something other then english.

I have a B.Sc. and soon will have an M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics, and I was wondering if there are ever any jobs say teaching math, whether it be highschool or University perhaps?

Thanks in Advance! Hope everyone has a great non denominational holiday... or w/e they want us to call it!

Some folks I know at advanced hagwons for very young children teach math or science in English. However, if you want a uni job teaching math, these days you probably have to have your Ph.D. and for an international high school, you have to be certified through your home country (and usually have some experience, too). Math is considered a "high needs" subject, though, so you could probably find a way to get certified easily and cheaply in the U.S. if you wanted to.

If your are white and you love Jesus, there are some foreign subject teachers at Christian schools.

Some universities also hire subject teachers to teach in English. They would prefer you to be white than a native speaker. I worked at a uni where they had subject teachers with only a Masters, but also had one from India - but that poor soul had to have 2 masters, a Phd & a post-doc for the same money.

People teaching non-English subjects at uni are often teaching pretty basic stuff. Someone who started off teaching business management and accounting ended up teaching business English because the lectures were too demanding for the korean students, although Filippino, Japanese, and Chinese etc students had no problems.

I think with the influx of unemployed but well-educated westerners in Korea these days, many universities will want to see a Phd, or at least a Masters with a list of publications.

i think the main reason Unis want foreigners is so that they can get published in foreign journals to raise their status. Some profs' contract renewals are solely dependent upon them scoring a paper in a foreign journal each year.

Konkuk University (Future Knowledge Education Center(Lifelong Education Center) has jobs teaching different subjects there. They usually look for F-2 visas, but if you have permission from your school, that would be ok too.

I ended up teaching Sociology there and it was pretty interesting. Also looks great on a resume.

I teach tourism and service management at my uni. The job was available, so I took it, if only to get away from teaching English.
