In a city of 1.5 million people? You needn't worry about finding foreigners in Daejeon, there'll be enough foreigners that you'll undoubtedly meet at least a dozen of them that you don't like!
I don't live there, but I'd imagine that there would be at least a couple foreign bars. |

My best friend is there right now, just got there 3 weeks ago, and he's having a good time. He doesn't know too many people yet.

Daejeon is a good city, you're 40 mins south of Seoul (via KTX) and a couple hours from Busan (KTX). 5th largest city, lots of universities, lots of cultural places and an easy public transportation system. |

Thanks Oculis, cool link btw.
Daejeon hall, which is right next to the govt complex has many classical performances. I've gone there a few times and had fun.
Expo park is really cool, it's like going to a giant science fair, really, they had an event there recently I went to. There were lots of tables set up, food vendors, a science carnival really.
There's a few museums, there's an art gallery right next to Daejeon Hall as well.
There's a few mountains here, just like anywhere in Korea, if you're into nature stuff. |

The Galleria Timeworld in Dunsan reopened their bookstore from what I've heard. That might be the only place to find some english literature. Also, across the street from that department store is a store on the 5th floor of a building (ask around for exact location) that specializes in ESL textbooks, and has a small selection of famous english literature. You might find something there too.
Across the street from the EMart in Dunsan, there's an italian restaurant, La Stella and an indian place (forgot the name) right next to eachother. Both restaurants have good food and provide a good environment, away from the craziness.
There's also a Costco in Seodaejeon. Again, ask around for exact location. |

| Yep, I'm back in Korea to start my second year, but Daejeon is my new city. I've been here for a little over a month now so I'm still just settling in. I like it so far and have met a few people but I can't give you much more nformation other than that. I really like your idea about a book swap though. I'm about to run out of something to read, and I had been planning to go to Seoul for new stuff because I don't really know where anything is in Daejeon. I usually only read non-fiction books. If you Daejeon folks are looking for books, you should stop by Santa Claus. It's a bar in Gungdong that I can't actually tell you how to get to. But they have a big bookshelf of books that you can take with you, read when you want, and bring back if you care to. You can leave books there and all that.
Brickhouse (a bar in Eunhangdong near the Jungangno subway stop) used to do the same thing. I think they stopped though.
I have one metric ton (2,200 pounds) of books that I bought in Seoul (at WhatTheBook in Itaewon and the COEX Mall) and I won't take them with me when I leave next month. I'll most likely give some to friends and drop the rest off at Santa's.
But the bars are the easiest places to meet people in Daejeon. It's not just for getting drunk and hooking up.
