I'm looking for some good video material for class, any suggestions?

I used to like using movies, but they are too long for students to pay attention to and do not allow for enough discussion.

Now I'm interested in TV shows and animation.

I need shows that are pretty simple, not likely to offend anyone while still being interesting and capable of getting students to talk. I also don't want to use anything that is too common.

Try some Saved By The Bell episodes. They've got good usable language and story lines they can relate to.

How old are the students, and what level? Mr. Bean is good, because he's funny and there's very little talking. So, you can have students write descriptive sentences, or place the scenes in order, or maybe have them paraphrase, conversationally, which scenes were funny and why.

For very low level, you can make a sentence frame and leave blanks for whatever words you want them to practice:

"_________ loses his _________ inside the _________."

(Mr. Bean/ watch/ turkey)

The same goes for any video where there's little talking, but there's something happening. Videos where trained animals do human things (like decorate a Christmas tree) are good for descriptive prompting, too

I think I will try using scenes from Saved by the Bell. Little did I know that that show would one day have pedagogical value. Razz

The Discovery Channel Earth series is available in HD from a few torrent sites. It has the subtitles burned in.

OH MAN! I could go on forever...

Suffice to say - I have made some great Mr. Bean stuff. Just download the ppt and click and play. Worksheets and vocab for 3 videos so far. More to come. Mr. Bean's Christmas is cool.

But amazing videos on EFL Classroom. I've collected all the best. Here is a public playlist http://www.veewow.com/playlist-yg-THE-BEST-EFL-TEACHING-VIDEOS. I highly recommend using the Real English videos. Mike let's us have our own high quality player of his videos.

But just use our search and find amazing short videos for all kinds of topics. Mr. Bean etc...
http://www.eflclassroom.com/searchning/ Search for Mr. Morton. My fav. lots of ideas there too to help new teachers.

Cheers,
DD

The Disney Silly Symphonies are my gold material right now. They are about 8 mins long so just long enough to hold their attention. Make up a work sheet and stop the film intermittently and make them answer the questions. That should take 20 mins then play the movie through one more time without interrupting and you basically have a lesson that the students enjoy an only takes 20 mins to prepare.

" Lost" season one. Play it in English with English subtitles. Most of the language is pretty easy. Lots of Korean content dealing with Cultural difference when the Korean man offers Raw Sea Urchin to the other survivors.

http://elllo.org for short pieces to start discussions. Good for middle school and up, the older the better. Most videos include a few follow up multiple choice questions too.
