I just think President Obama is in way over his head w/r/t the economy. There wasn't a response for that so I dind't answer. |

Why would you compare Obama to Carter when the inflation that took place under the Carter administration happened in his last year in office? If anything, Obama would be Reagan in terms of his place in the recession hand off, although it was really LBJ who sowed the seeds for the 1980 recession anyway so it's kind of a moot point. At least you still get to blame a Democrat (and a champion of modern civil rights to boot). |

And no one would ever accuse him of being partisan by cherry-picking Obama and Carter and not mentioning the roles of the Bushes and Reagan.
OP, you left out Clinton. |

Well, out of the options, I guess I have to go with option 4 ... print money until it's Obamamoney. He'll look good on the $100,000,000,000,000 bill when I need two of them to buy a loaf of bread.
But here's the thing. Obama sucks, but he's merely a reflection of the American people, so the blame rests squarely on our shoulders. Americans, conservatives and liberals alike, seem to want to see spending cuts as long as the cuts don't come out of their gumbent check or sacred cow program so the cuts never happen. Look at our population. Look at how many are government employees. Look at how many prison inmates we have. Look at how many welfare recipients we have. And it seems like most of the people I know are drawing disability checks even though they're clearly not disabled. That's no way to have a viable economy.
Just as Bush was a reflection of America in 2003, Obama is America personified in 2009. He isn't going to change until we do, since he simply panders to our wishes in an effort to be popular and get votes in 2012. So who is really crashing our economy? America or Obama? I would have to say We the People, with Obama as our figurehead. |

Seconded; if someone's crashing the economy, it's the American people. Living in a societal model like ours has responsibilities, and the American people are routinely not living up to those responsibilities. People who want to blame everything on politicians are missing the mark. Politicians are incentive-driven humans just like anyone else. If they have incentive to behave in a corrupt, damaging fashion, and the American people don't counter balance that incentive with the imminent threat of being removed from office, they're going to do with most humans would do: what's in their own interests.
It's the American people's responsibility to make sure that a politician's interests coincide with their own interests by constantly threatening them with ejection from office. When most Americans can start naming their own representatives, perhaps this will be plausible. |

Hmm. I definitely think voting is an important step, but I'd take it a step further and say that even many people who vote are no where near politically aware enough. |

The US economy was in a mess, BEFORE Obama was elected. I'd blame 8 years of mismanagement by GWB. Hardly the fault of those evil socialists & communists!

"Saving is sin, and spending is virtue"... Interesting article written by an Indian Economist, which can easily be googled. |

However, I would still not argue that it was the fault of an unhampered market.
This is a good essay. To me, it sums up how I feel about GWB & Co. (ie. those last 8 years.) Of course, I say this in hindsight.

I think Obama is definitely trying to destroy the economy. We know the antichrist will appear as a great savior and leader but lead to world ruin. After destroying the American economy, Obama will become the leader of the one world government. |
