If I want to renew my contract, but want a 6 week gap between this and the next one (in termtime) Will the school have any power to make the decision, or would the decision be made by GEPIK, ie would GEPIK say 6 weeks is too long??

If your current contract runs through Friday,Feb. 26, and you renew it, your new contract would start on Monday, March 1, when the new term starts. I don't see why either GEPIC or your school would be willing to allow you to miss the first six weeks of classes. I think you would have to reapply - unless you somehow qualifiy for an unpaid leave of absence.
