EDIT: Car F/S: 1994 Hyundai Accent. 1st offer over 500,000w takes it!!
Pics up:

1994 Hyundai Accent
Automatic transmission
1500cc
144,000km
New battery (1month)
A/c, elec. windows...
A good, little run-around. Engine goes well. Never had any problems with it. Obviously, being 15 years old, it has a few minor bumps and bruises but overall it's still in good shape.

| Located in Itaewon. Also, you need to get insurance sorted before you can change ownership. This is easily done. Cost me about 500,000w for the year. After you have the insurance you just need to go down to the Gu Office and do the paperwork. Doesn't take too long and is a minimal cost. |

| Can you give me some details about how to get insurance and how to get a Korean driving Licence (I'm told my British one is no good here). If I can find out what I need to drive here I would be very interested in the car and have the cash ready. Cheers |

You can get a Korean drivers licence at the Seoul Global Center next to City Hall. Go there with your British drivers licence. They will then book you for an eye examination in an opticians near by.. go do that.. then go back and you can get your Korean drivers licence. I think you had to submit some photos as well.. I don't remember exactly but it was pretty easy.
Unless things have changed they will take your British licence from you. You can get your British licence back from them by showing a plane ticket leaving the country. |

| Hi, thanks so much for that I will do that. Do you know if I can drive for a short time until I do that on my British licence? Also, does anyone know anything about insurance? Cheers. |

to answer your questions abi or james, you can easily get insurance online or by phone/fax. i don't have a car but i did go through a similar process when i purchased my motorcycle. to make things faster, i just had my korean co-teacher call the insurance company. they took down my information (alien card and korean license numbers). i just transfered money to them. the next day, at the -dong office, i just had them fax me (using the office's fax machine) the appropriate documents.
of course you don't have a korean DL yet. the OP/seller suggests that getting a license is as easy as swapping it. i was under that assumption at first but they made me take a written test (not hard though - no studying, got an 80) as well as the physical test (touching your toes, eye sight, bla bla). you will surrender your british license, but can obviously get it back once you leave. you have the other option to have both, but i believe you'll have to take a driving test also.
other thoughts: this all also depends on your location. if you're in the countryside, you may need to go to the -do office, otherwise you'd just go to your -gu office -- except for gangnam-gu. the people there told me (rather my girlfriend) that in gangnam, for vehicle registration, you'll need to go to your local -dong office.
lastly, you can drive in korea with an international DL but legally you can't if you have an E-2 - that's just what i've read on websites, not on an official government site. either way though, you'll need a license first to get your insurance. you'll need insurance before you can get registered.
also, maybe i wrote this already, i took my test in the gangnam license center. this is a one day trip for eye/physical exam (at the site) and written test. or, like me, you can easily split it into two trips if you work during the daytime. and yes you'll need photos and cash (to by those coupon/stamps - maybe 12,000w). physical exam is an additional price - can't remember though.
hope this helps. |

I got my license at the Seoul Global Help Center near City hall and did NOT have to do any of the things that Kiwi had to do.
I gave them my license from home, photos, passport, E2, and then they sent me down street to do the eye test. Did that. Went back and then my license was already done. The whole thing took about an hour and cost less that 20,000W. No written test. No physical test. |

Not sold as of yet, but could be getting close. A few people very interested. Basically, the first person to come and look at the car, agree to buy it, get the ownership papers from me, take them to secure insurance, go to the Gu office and register, and then come back and give me 500,000w will get the keys to drive this car away.
I'll check this thread in the morning and get back to anybody else who might be interested. |

| UK license holders don't need any additional tests other than quick eyesight check. |
