|
|
My question is if i get a job with an E2 visa and suddenly have to go home to UK for a funeral would the visa and or Korea govt allow multiple entry and would the employer be obliged by law to allow this?
I ask because my Mother is 83 soon and in bad health but could still manage 4 to 7 years at a guess. My father died when i was in Taiwan and i missed his funeral because of finance issues!! Hate the same to happen again!
IMA she has plenty of support in UK so am not abandoning a helpless parent to any lonliness |

You can ask for a multiple entry visa and solve that problem. The employer thing is another problem. I don't know what the law says about it. I do know that the #1 excuse for runners is 'family emergency' and so bosses are somewhat sensitive, shall we say, to that excuse. |

check your visa. Does it have an "m" on it? If it does, you already have it. |

If you have a UK passport you can get a multi entry permit from the immigration office. It does not cost anything. |

You can leave whenever you want. You can leave and come back with the multiple entry visa. Your visa will say 'M' under entries or you can get an add on sticker thing allowing it.
Your employer will hopefully be understanding. I was in a similar situation; actually found out that night after work, booked my ticket, and called work 6 hours later on the way to the airport. My director freaked out a bit and asked me a dozen times if I was coming back (like I would have called if I wasn't?!! ) and actually wanted me to send an email showing my return ticket. So yes, they can be quite paranoid. Good luck with your decision. |

I suppose if i offered to leave everything at the school and just take my passport and day bag + a promise to return they would have to believe i wasn't a runner?
Well thanks everyone. The Visa issue is not a problem but the Employer will be a don't know until it happens. |

Unfortunately, I actually had to do this during my current contract.
I called my co-teachers, bought a ticket on the next available flight out of Incheon and left for JFK. Didn't even wait for the VP to chime in on it.
You can get a multiple re-entry thing on your passport so you can come back in. You'll be fine. Be sure to ask for one. |
