I just want to know.

Do women apply for teaching positions that are advertised for women only?

I wouldn't. That smells like a bad job to me. I'd expect it to be a job working with "difficult" children who have very fussy mothers.

It would depend on the reason for a female preference... Perhaps they have an apartment and the landlord prefers female tenants. Perhaps it's a girls only school. My school has two foreign English teachers and they strongly prefer one male and one female (for pretty decent reasons), so when I leave this year, they'll be looking just at female candidates.

But often, as Draz pointed out, such positions are often hiring with faulty criteria, assuming women to be weak and more easily controlled or the parents/directors are paranoid about men touching the children or wanting a girlfriend/good lay rather than a teacher. I would approach with caution.

Bingo. 6'5" men categorically can't teach elementary school, did you miss the memo?
Is this *really* not illegal here?

I wonder about business jobs that state that. Maybe they're a bunch of horny businessmen who want something nice to look at.

I'd apply for one. I look childish without my beard and we all look alike anyway.

You "wonder"? There is no question. That is exactly, 100% what it is about.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I think the "women only" advertising should be illegal, but employers would still pretty much be able to do whatever they want. I would apply for one of these positions, if it seemed like there was a good reason for hiring a woman. In my current job, because of the population I have to serve, I feel that a woman is best for my position. So I understand why some jobs might want one legitimately. But most, nah, not so much.
