Where can you buy a decent ham in Korea? The ham that Koreans eat is little better than spam. A medium to large cured and smoked bone-in ham!

Any ideas?

Haven't seen anything resembling a decent ham at Costco. I been able to buy a good sized ham steak and sandwich slices but not the whole thing. I am not sure whether mail order from the US is possible for something like a ham.

Funny how you should ask this as my fiance and I just had a big ordeal trying to find one. First of all, they don't sell bone-in hams like you would find in the US. That includes Costco - they are not sold there either. The best we could find was the little shop outside of the Hannam Supermarket. It was the only place were we found actual ham. (And trust me...we looked everywhere; my fiance even called a couple of places since he is Korean). It was Hormel, Black Label ham and it turned out excellent. Yes it is a canned ham, but if you cook it in the oven, it tastes just like the bone-in ham. I used to work for Hormel, so I know a lot about ham. haha Also - I think the reason that you cannot find real bone-in ham in Korea is because they do not have the ovens to cook the ham in the way that it is. And Hormel won't ship a bone-in ham here because of the 'use by' date. At least that is what I found in my research.

Anyway, that was all we could find, but we thoroughly enjoyed it for Christmas dinner! Good luck!

Oh yes...of course you can get it on the military base (Dragon Hill Lodge), but if you are just a civilian and don't know any of the military, then you need to be more creative.

Thank you conbon,

The canned ham looks like the best choice so far. Although a few years ago, I would have rejected the idea of ham out of a can outright. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Laughing
