Few years ago I was in China and they had some weird technology with movies on cd type things but they never ever had vhs-no such thing. (pirate dvd's were everywhere but thats another story.) But at the same time VHS was ubiquitous in Korea.
Why? are videos still made for Korea market and why did they never use those ...err things? |

The only place I've seen VHS still being used was in love motels. I assumed they bought the equipment cheaply and knew that no one would bother stealing it.
I do see music cassettes being sold fairly often. |

Yeah... back in the day when things were made in Japan, rather than China. |

| Same thing's true in Japan. Many DVD shops have a very large section of VHS. My thinking is that if people still have a VCR, and apparently they do, why not keep the VHS cassettes. Probably the real reason, though, is that a lot of stuff on the VHS cassettes has not been changed over to DVD. It's rare. I remember walking into several DVD shops and seeing some great stuff on cassettes that hadn't come out--yet--on DVD. |

| That's awesome. You can't get the same feel of a good 80's or 90's movie without VHS. |

I think the "things" you're talking about were called VCDs, and I used to see them a lot in 2002-5, before DVD's caught on in Korea.
Are VHS tapes still actually made, or can you just rent older ones? |

Yep, that's what they were called in Guangzhou and Hong Kong in 2003-'04. |
