| I was just told today that starting tomorrow I will be required to stay until 5pm, instead of the normal 4:30. Is this normal? I would really like to get out of here as early as possible when I have to deskwarm after my camp. Can I just say no? Also is anyone else having their time changed? |

Are you starting later than usual? If you're starting 30 minutes later, then I guess they can ask that...if you start at the usual time...then I think they're just being foolish. |

| have to stay an hour later but come in an hour later. That should be how it works. I'm sure they'll update you about that. Anything after 8 hours a day is overtime I think so they'll probably want you to come in later. |

I'm assuming you are at a public school. I'm with GEPIK in my second and last year. Last year I didn't have to stay after I finished camp, but this year I do. The VP told my co-teacher 5, but I said that if I start class at 9 then I am not coming to school until 9 if I have to stay until 5. My contract says that I'm required to stay at school for 8 hours not more. So, I think its agreed 8:40 to 4:40 as usual. My co-teacher is trying to convince him to let me leave after camp. I don't think you can say no to coming in for eight hours a day, but I think you can change the times.
I just think it sucks that I have lost a "perk" this year and if I would have known that I would have to stay 8 hours a day regardless of camp or not, I would have done things differently. |

Thanks for the advice. I hope I can change the times. I wanted to be here at my normal time and leave at my normal time. I'm obviously going to be here early everyday to set up everything and turn on the heat for the kids. Why they would make this change now is very strange, btw sudden change for a thursday. |

If you have to physically be at the school, I would just be thorn in their side and say that 1) you are highly motivated to create some new and exiting things for the students, but that 2) you can't do it without your co-teacher and administrative support.
In short, if you have to be there, make other people have to be there, too. Do it politely so that they lose face by making you be there if they won't be joining you. |
