im assuming you mean USD? I'm Canadian (the CDN $ isn't too far off from the USD) and I just move the decimal over to the left 3 times. so 1000 won is 1 dollar. 10,000 won, is 10$. In reality, if you use this to gauge how much you are spending, you will actually be spending much less than you think, but its a good index to use as it doesnt take too much time, and its not too far off from the actual exchange rate...

hope this helps...

Unless you're trading currencies a lot I don't see the logic in thinking of KRW in terms of Dollars, Pounds, etc. You're in Korea now. Your earnings are in KRW and your bills are in KRW. You'll get accustomed to it soon enough.

Exactly - just knock off three zeroes, keeping in mind that the won is worth a little less than 1/10 of a US, Canadian, or Australian cent, and that's a good approximation. The 1,000 note is a "light dollar," and so on. It's not hard at all.

You can check exchange rates every so often on Yahoo Currency.

I dunno.

I'm currently in my sixth year here and I constantly convert stuff to both US $ and British pounds. I'm not sure why. It might just be an OCD thing. But I really like to do on-the-fly conversions for pretty much everything.

It makes me feel good when I realize how cheap movie tickets or makkoli are.

Better to think as a percentage of your disposable income (or total income if you want to dispose of it all). That way you get a better feeling of "how much" something really is.
