|
|
I will (hopefully) be getting married soon. My fiance is Korean, and we plan to get married in Korea. Can anyone shed any light on the following questions for me.
1) I was married before (in Canada). I will need evidence that that marriage was terminated. How do I go about doing that (quickly)?
2) For the F-2 visa, do I really need to show that I have 35,000,000 in assets in Korea? I've heard yes, and I've heard no. (It's hard to get straight answers about things in this country.
3) Where's the best place to buy wedding rings?
Thanks kindly in advance.

I'm guessing you'll have to go the the embassy in Seoul to get the proof.
What I'm wondering is: What are the steps to getting married?
Do you first go to the CDN embassy and pick up forms? Then head to the Gu office to register marriage? then return to the CDN embassy to register marriage in Canada?
Is it just that simple? |

Sorry I can only answer:
2) You need to show income/assets of w30,000,000. They accepted my apartment deposit and a work contract.
3) Mum and pop jewellers apparently give the best price, but the staff at Lotte Department store accidently discounted my wife's ring too much. |

Firstly,congratulations and good luck.
When I got married the process was much as discussed above and we had both been married before (her in the US and me in Oz) so we needed divorce certificates. We went to my embassy and filled out some forms then to the Korean govt office.
It was only 20mil then I think, but all I needed was a copy of my contract and letter from my employer. It's just to prove that you can support yourself. I have heard of people needing bank books/statements etc though.
there are a lot of jewelers near Jongno that are ok.
Good luck. |

Getting married in this country is the easiest thing you've probably ever experience...
Just go to the Canadian embassy the day you want to get married. I filled out the paperwork beforehand because there is a lot, which you can probably download from their website.
Then you will go to the gu/ward office and sign some papers, then return to the embassy and bam - you are married.
It was funny it was so easy. As far as the divorce paper, you can probably get that from the embassy as well. The US embassy was super helpful, they laid everything out so it was easy to follow and we went in prepared.
Hope that helps! Good luck!
And sorry...we are going to the US for rings. |

1. You need a divorce certificate. You can order it from the court you filed for divorce in (whatever province that was). It takes time to process it and ship of course.
2. This can be cash, contracts, apartment deposits, etc Some people have been asked, some haven't. If you're asked and can't provide it, it goes down as a black mark or something and it can make getting the visa later more difficult. |

The divorce decree should have been issued to you when the marriage was terminated. It's one of those 'keep this for life' legal documents that should be stashed away somewhere in a metal box. Got one? Knowing Korea, they probably want it apostilled. |

1. Check the Canadian embassy website. I know the US embassy website has information for people on just how to obtain such documents.
2. Don't know, don't care. Sorry
3. Online. Ordered the rings super cheap on ebay, shipped to my parents in the US who are bringing them with when they come to the ceremony. |

In canada you get the final judgment automatically. You don't get the certificate unless you specifically order it 30 days after the final judgment. Might vary from province to province. |

We did get a divorce certificate. But the ex-wife has it in Canada. I don't want to be calling her up to ask for a copy of it so I can marry another woman. Talk about your awkward conversation. |

Usually a divorce becomes a matter of public record. If you can get the date it was published in the newspaper, you may be able to use that date to get the court that completed the divorce to provide you with a copy. |

First of all, I would emplore you if you want to have a great wedding that you will remember forever. Don't get married in Korea. Most wedding halls and other wedding venues are very well rush rush in and out. NEXT!!!
You will have your quick ceremony followed by about 1-2 hours to eat average food from a buffet. Then its all over in around 2-3 hours. I would say the only benefit will be you will get more cash from relos here.
I insisted we go back to Australia for ours and she thought it was amazing, her parents were blown away too. I did put in alot of effort and I had to plan it all though.
Anyway about the visa. In general the money is required if your wife doesn't have a job. Because essentially she is sponsering you and if she can't support you then they think you will be a leech. I would call them, get your wife to call, as their english still isn't that great. Get the persons name and a list of all the documents required. It is important that you get the name. There are alot of cases if different people saying you need different things. We brought everything and we were A-OK. |

Contact a lawyer in your home town and ask them to arrange to get a Divorce Certificate from the local courthouse. Cost me $75 to get it in BC and I got it within 7-10 business days.
2) For the F-2 visa, do I really need to show that I have 35,000,000 in assets in Korea? I've heard yes, and I've heard no. (It's hard to get straight answers about things in this country.
Yes and no. Depends on the Immigration agent and office you deal with. We were not asked about this, but I am female, so maybe it was different as the male is expected to provide those things. Usually a copy of a housing contract is sufficient, if not maybe your in-laws can transfer the funds to your account long enough for the statement. I know one couple who did that.
3) Where's the best place to buy wedding rings?
Costco. Selection is limited (here) but the value is far superior to anything else you can find in Korea. You can check them out online as well but they only ship in the USA. If you plan to have anyone visit or go to the USA, bluenile is also one of the top online websites for buying diamond jewelry. I would put Costco first, bluenile second.
Congrats and good luck! |
