When I first got to Korea I sat down with the landlord and my k teacher and it was understood that I pay him the maintenance fee and water(fixed amount) each month. I was also told that I pay the electric and gas on the unit. I just saw a letter posted in the common area of the building and it is written in Korean, but it has a copy of gas tax bill the landlord gets each month. The letter also has a break down of each unit with an amount next to it. It appears to be an average of the total of the bill. I will admit I can be all wrong about the letter. Could the landlord all of sudden make me pay the taxes on the gas that he gets charged each month even though we had an agreement? I realize my contract says taxes, but it emphasis the regular monthly bills more. Confused

That's a new one to me. I recall one of my old places had a similar kind of bill they wanted me to contribute payment on. Every year the septic system had to be cleaned or maintained. Everyone in the building had to share the cost. I protested, but I had to pay.
The cost might be 40,000 - 50,000 won, but it is probably worth paying it, and firmly stating that you won't pay things that were not fully disclosed to you again. Ask them (3 times) to disclose other hidden costs and ask them (3 times) to promise that they won't do this to you again concerning bills, deposits and such that involve you.
As you have already seen before during your stay, not everything is explained and not everything appears fair. If you fight it, the problems may just escalate. I hope it's just a small amount of cash, perhaps no more than the cost oft a night out on the town.

You're an English teacher, and you spell "Are", "Our?"

It's the internet, not a college essay. This is supposed to be a casual environment.

English teacher or not, people who complain about grammar on message boards are jerks.

To answer the OP's question, that is odd. I pay direct to the gas and electric company for my consumption and pay 20,000W/month to the landlady for basic maintenance for the apartment complex. The monthly cost also covers any basic repairs and maintenance that is done at request.

People who fly to a country and take jobs as language instructors while not knowing the simple difference between our and are should stay home. I agree that some simple typing mistakes or grammar like effect/affect can be forgivable, but are/our? No sir, not in my lifetime!

A valid point. I'm just not overly sensitive to them (correcting college essays will do that to you). Anybody who frequents other internet forums know not to expect people to have great grammar, or to even make coherent posts at all.

But wouldn't you expect English teachers, all of whom are supposedly college educated, to at least be able to write a simple post that is logical and free of very simple errors? Is that really expecting too much? Do most people really do so little writing in college that they can't write 100 words without making a major grammatical mistake? Question

OMG!
ROFLMAO!

String up and hang until death every English teacher that makes a grammatical or spelling error and let's their post or thread go unchecked.

Whatever.

For kicks, I went and looked up kinerry's previous posts. Guess what I found.

I'm thinking stuff about glass houses & rocks, and pots, kettles, & the colour black.

That's right. COLOUR.

Some of the worst papers I corrected were from English majors.

Thank you! I already got my answer. The rest of you should get a life and get bent. Oh, did I spell "bent" correctly? Rolling Eyes

They were just "emphasising" your spelling. Now, you can work on distinguishing a verb from a noun.
