I'm moving again next week to a new place. I'm living on my own again(after a year where my friend/roommate and i are still friends amazingly) and I really like the layout.

Anyway I need ideas for the room. I don't want a normal coffee table as I don't like them. Right now I'm thinking of a cool trunk maybe if i can find one. I also won't have a tv (i never watch tv except when im in bed) so i need an alternative focal point of the room.

The cheaper the better. I might be leaving after a year but probably two. Any materials, any original function.

If a cool trunk becomes impossible to find, a pair of baskets to slide under an ordinary coffee table would help with storage and stashing stuff. Keep measurements handy (notebook/phone) for when you spy a good buy.

I had a huge old steamer trunk for a coffee table in my house in NZ. Looks good, but impractical as hell. First of all, it's tempting to fill the trunk up with junk and that makes it heavy to move around when you want to use the space for other things. Also, a trunk would be too tall if you are into sitting on the floor - and you can't get your legs under them.

In my living room I have a Single bed. Got a crapload of huge pillows on it. Its like having a TV in the bedroom. Great for naps.

Good points on the trunks. I'll have to think about this.

I'm coming around to a reading room, library look. I'm going to see how expensive that would be to put together.

I did this when I lived in a one-room but wasn't a fan.

Costco is selling a coffee table that doubles as a foosball table. It's pretty cool. Not cheap, though... I think it was over 250,000.

Here it is:

I just use a largish Korean traditional dining table. Heck, I do this in the US, too! We usually just watch Internet TV on the laptop, and it's perfect for that. You can always fold it up and put it away if needed. Not a great focal point unless you get a nice one. I have gotten MANY from the dumpster, some quite nice.

i have a dining table but its going against the wall in the kitchen. My preferred place for a dining table as to me it seems like the logical place to read a newspaper/book and have a coffee. Of course that is because that is the way I grew up Smile The sitting room had a coffee table but no one ever went in there unless the granny and granda called down.

That looks like the US site. Does Costco Korea sell it?
