Anyone that has been to Phnom Penh know of any good places to stay
Some place that it will be possible to meet up with people as I'm travelling alone
Also maybe a place that can arrange a pick-up at the airport
Thanks
oh and budget is anything up to 15 or 20 dollars i suppose |

I stayed at Boueng Meas Guesthouse near Boueng Kak Lake. If you're looking at the Mosque, turn right down the little street that runs in front of its property. You'll pass another intersection and will be at the guesthouse shorty. It's not too hard to find. I got my own clean room with satellite tv and air-conditioning for probably around $8. I didn't shop around too much; I know there's probably cheaper. But it was clean and seemed fairly safe, It was one of the more decent places I stayed at, though there didn't seem to be many (if any) other guests.
I think I recall them speaking some English, but not a lot. In some ways it seems more Khmer oriented, but I think they do have an English sign. I'm nearly sure they wouldn't be able to do an airport pick-up. |

Your two main area choices are either the 'backpackers ghetto' by Boueng Kak Lake (where rooms are generally much less than 15/night, more like a 2-5 bucks for a simple fan room and bed to 10-12 for a bigger aircon room), or the Riverfront by Streets 104-178 where it's a bit more, but in your range.
For the price range you're looking at, there isn't going to be any airport pickup. However, it's a flat $9 taxi ride rate anywhere into town or $5 for a tuktuk/$3 for a mototaxi. No hassles, no bargaining, no ripoffs.
For your price range, you'll easily find an aircon room with a fridge just about anywhere. Take a look at www.canbypublications.com for a description of different places in PP.
Send an email to a couple of places for a reservation, and just tell your driver where you're going (cross-streets) at the airport. Transportation from the airport to your room is MUCH less of a hassle/ripoff than Bangkok or Manila if you (pretend to) know what you're talking about.
For what it's worth, I usually stay at PKD1 guesthouse on Str136 by the riverfront. Their website is http://www.pkd1cambodia.com/. 10-15 bucks for a fan room, 15=20 for an aircon, depending on traffic, but they can be pretty booked up, especially on weekends. Again, the emailing first option works best. |

I stayed at Rory's Pub. It's right by the river front and costs $11 for a single room with air con and TV. No complaints at all.
