I know while we're in Korea, Canadians can't invest money back home but what about playing the markets here...? |

Keela,
You can "play" in the market back home if you choose dear.
You would have to pay Canadian taxes on any profit you make but that would be it.
I have no idea if you can "play" the market here....then again I have no interest in playing the market....I suggest calling someone who actually works in that field instead of asking for advice on a web discussion board concerning teaching in Korea! |

I think so.
I'm under the impression most of the Korean stock market is controlled by overseas investors, especially Chinese and Japanese with a bit of American money.
I can't see why not but maybe you would have to go through a candian broker but how hard could that be. |

Ah Homer, at least you only gently busted my chops. No sooner had I hit the submit button than I realized my mistake...is this being only by second post a lame excuse?

You should be able to play the markets here. A friend of mine has been doing it for the past three years (he is a Canadian). He has his trading account with Woori Exchange. I am not sure of all the details but I think the amount needed to open an account is 15,000,000 won. |

I use Samsung Securities with my stock accounts (actually have 2 of them)
my conditions were I had to have been in the country six months, provide paper of registration from my employer and my accounts were setup in korean won.
Trade commissions are 0.14% of your total trade value.
makes trading very cheap and easy
english.samsungfn.com
go there...it's easy to register
