|
|
i just picked up a modded wii from yongsan. no idea about hardmod/softmod/which mod? i thought i'd be ok just buying the burned games from the stores there, but i'm having trouble getting some titles in english (notably metroid prime 3) from them.
as my dvd burner is busted, i'm interested in going the usb route. what do i need to do this? i heard i'd need a smallish SD card and then a USB hard drive. I'm guessing it should be at least 10 gigs to handle games like smash brothers.
i'd also like to get some emulators running on the homebrew channel - genesis, nes, snes.
I've tried looking at wiibrew, but there's a glut of information there, I can't figure out where to get started. |

| I'm in the same position as you? Any info would be appreciated. How much did you pay for your Wii in Yongsan? How much were burned games? I'm hoping I didn't pay too much. |

| My wii was 250,000 including the mod (i actually bought it off craigslist, but he gave me the receipt from yongsan). at yongsan i paid 7000 per burned game. i dont mind paying that, but they have serious problems getting some commonplace games, like metroid, in english |

| I paid about the same from a co worker. I hope someone can shed some light on using a usb for games. I will keep researching and let you know if I find anything. |

All your questions will be answered.
But be aware, Wii hacking requires a little tech-savvy and has a bit of a learning curve and danger factor. That's what makes it so fun!
Your not going to figure everything out in a few minutes...or even a couple of hours. Persist and you can have a great time hacking the most hackable console out there. There's a million things you can do with it!

I propose setting up a Wii club. We meet at someone's house once every 2 weeks and try to learn all the nuances with a Modded Wii together. We could trade games and play the Wii too.
My place is too small. However, I can bring my accessories like my MotionPlus attachments, extra Wiimote/nunchucks, etc...
I know the basics of Wii modding. i'm pretty Tech savvy also.
I'm in Seoul, Gangnam. |

I would totally join that club...
I just bricked my Wii a few months ago trying to change it to American firmware... soooo dumb of me to do.
Anyway, I've got a LOT of burned games, WiiMotion Plus, other attachments.
I could set up a list in the buy/sell forums if anyone wants them. |

I was lucky enough to find an American Wii for very cheap on a Korean buy/sell board.
The Korean selling it got it as a present from their CAnadian relative. Being a North American Wii, he can't play Korean games. So, he sold it for 150,000w. |

gbatemp will cover everything you need to know, though it is a bit of a learning curve. Basically you run things using the Home Brew Channel, from folders inside a folder named apps on the root director of your SD card. In each app folder there is a file named boot.dol, which is what will be executed when you choose that folder from the menu of the home brew channel.
You will probably need a .dol called Wad Manager, which you can use to install the latest cIOS (custom firmware. Rev. 14 Presently I think), and then you can find either the USB Loader Wad (to install using the Wad Manager) which will make a new channel, the USB Loader boot.dol to run from the Home Brew Channel, or the Neogamma boot.dol (I recommend it for the highest comapatablity and lowest frequency of freezes. Currently Rev. 7/ Rev. 8 beta.)
Either of those can work as USB Loaders. Next, you need an external USB drive (but not a seagate). This needs to be formated to WFBS, which can be done on your PC using the WFBS manager (3.0). This is a piece of freeware designed to manage Wii external drives. You can also use it for loading game ISOs on to your USB from your PC. generally they will be much smaller than 4 gigs when you do so...
well, that's all I can think of for now, and testing to do... |

a friend of mine back home gave me baby steps on gmail chat. so i am at least now able to play games using the usb port - i will get into other stuff like emulation later.
anyway, first yeah you need that WFBS program - install it on your computer and also copy the files to an sd card to put inside the wii
format your usb drive using wfbs, then add games to it.
install the necessary programs on the wii (usb loader gx is what i used, and some other CIOS stuff...cant remember the specifics)
during install it asks a lot of questions about what "IOS" to use. no idea what that means, but i remember entering in 38 and 222 a lot...i also had to tweak a lot of the settings on the usb loader program before the games would load.
good luck...i did at least get new super mario bros working, so i am hoping most other games should work too.
honestly, if you don't have a friend...i'd find someone on this board and buy them a case of beer or something to help you out. dont think i could've figured it all out on my own...and i'm not a complete dunce either. i did all kinds of fun stuff on my xbox1. |
