I'm sure there's a million posts about gyms in SK all over these forums, so if there's a link related to this I'd appreciate the forward. Otherwise...

Does anyone out there have any experience with gyms in the Sanbon area? Specifically in regards to price and location.

There's the outdoor track and walk aroundy place that might have some equipment. It's free, and easy to find- Get off the subway and walk straight

There's this weird underground rec-room type place where people seem to enjoy all sorts of variety of sport. I never attended there, they just directed me to a judo club (not a good one). Get off the subway station, walk straigh down the ramp, cross the first street, turn right on the second (or third) street and then look at the buildings on your left. There should be a basement level gym there somewhere.

There's a mountain. I think it was caled Suri San? I loved that mountain. It's about a 30 minute walk from the subway station. It has a main entrance, but when you get more familiar check out some entrances along the bottom of the mountains- there is one cool one.

There are two judo schools in the area and a mui thai school one subway stop away. It's been a year since I've been there so my memory is fading.

Sorry this isn't more helpful. Sad

Aye. Depends on what you are looking for. There's a bunch of 24 hour gyms in the downtown area, just look up at the 4-5th floors of the buildings and you'll find one easily. And there's a bunch of hapkido/taekwondo [read: babysitting] dojangs available, and there's also a wushu dojo. The wushu instructors are these tiny old people, super strong and flexible. If you want a combat art there's a Muay Thai gym in the next town over [Geumjeong].

Personally, I think the best gym is called "Dream Center". It's a church/screen golf/basketball/hapkido center. Just take either the 3 or the 1 towards the middle school. It's less than 20$ a month if you pay for a year, they've got showers, and it usually isn't crammed with folks.

Thanks guys, I was a little worried about not being able to find any free-weight gyms, but it sounds like there's more than a few.

If anyone stumbles across this post again and has some recommendations to add, or information on membership fees in the area, I'd love the input.

There's a place called Greenhill Sports Center up by the running track that an earlier poster referred to. It's just across the road. It's 117,000 per month for gym/sauna/swimming pool (two four-lane 30 metre lap pools! Rare in Korea!). The gym is pretty good. The equipment is oldish but adequate but most important (imo) is there's heaps of floor space so you don't have people running into you all the time. Lots of treadmills and cycles as well. The staff are friendly and will always say hello but not bug you. Same with the other gym patrons. There's a Korean guy there with the English name 'Scott' who's pretty helpful as well (being a bodybuilder he knows his stuff). The pools are excellent with plenty of quiet time slots. It's pretty pricey but worth every penny imo.
