ok, so i'm back from holidays and had turned off my ondol heating completely before i left. it's been running all night, almost on the max, and it is still cold in here! it ran well during november, but december it was fairly cold too.
i remember reading on here a while ago that the pipes in your ondol could freeze if you turn it off completely. if this is the case, what would i have to do to fix it? and how much would it cost approximately? |

If there are warm spots in the floor, your ondol is not frozen. If you live in an apartment and have neighbors above and below you, your ondol is not frozen. When I first got into this apartment, the thermostat read 8 C. To get it to 21 C took nearly 18 hours. It takes as long as it takes. |

then my ondol is just shit. i haven't seen a thermostat in this apartment, but i'm pretty sure it would only ever reach 15C. thanks for the help, i think now is the time to invest in a space heater for this apartment! |

| Should consult your landlord about it. But most places, or atleast where I am now in Jeollabuk-do, you won't feel much until dawn. If you turn the ondol on at night it won't work well until early in the morning. Is it still a problem? |

| Look at your boiler. Underneath there should be a small screw like plastic or metal cap. Fairly regularly you need to untwist, wait and re-twist this otherwise the boiler will not work correctly. I have absolutely no idea why you need to do this on Korean boilers, but you do. Try it, it can't hurt. |

| Do you get hot water? If so, a small water pump that pumps the hot water through the floor is not working. Call a maintenance guy to take a look at your boiler. |

Another thing, somewhere in your apartment is a set of valves (I have three rooms, so I have three valves). They can restrict the flow of water through the heating pipes. If you only need to heat one room, close the door and cut the water circulation to the other two.** That should heat things up more quickly.
**If you are using the PID loop in the thermostat to control the boiler and water circulation, then you shouldn't cut the heat to the room with the thermostat in it. |
