I don't know if anyone has lived in Dongducheon, but the air quality here, especially at night, is so bad that I feel it's slowly killing me. Does anyone know what that horrible cloud that wafts over the area is. It smells like a mixture of garbage and fertilizer smoke. Do people burn their garbage here? Is there a fertilizer company near by. It seems to be worst around Bosan and Jiheng. Anyone have any experience with this, or have a clue what that smell/smoke is?

It's from North Korea.

In retaliation for South Korean president Lee Myung Bak's "transgressions" against the North Korean people, their "dear leader" is forcing them to haul truckloads of human waste to the DMZ border (very close to Dongducheon). The action has been codenamed "The Great Struggle". It's being dumped in rivers to flow downstream. The goal is to make life as bad as humanly possible for South Koreans in your area.

If that was any other country I would immediately assume that was sarcasm/a joke, but as it's North Korea...

Wow Shocked that's insane, but does make a lot of sense. I'm buying an air filter ASAP. The smell has been giving me the worst headaches, I wonder what the cancer rate of people in this area is?
