I have a female friend there.
She says there are literally only 2 bars in the town, of which all the foreigners go to, and her boss sexually harasses her.
Your experience may vary... |

Cheongju wouldn't be my first pick, but it has a decent university section and a few good shopping malls. There are good bus links to Seoul. For some reason there are many universities and schools there, some obviously better than others.
I know that nearby KNUE is hiring (because I worked there) and there are likely jobs in Jochiwon. Both places are in the countryside but are very close to Cheongju. |

The KNUE job is on Dave's. You will need an MA or BA plus experience. As for others their requirements will vary. It's January -- you're burning daylight!
You could certainly commute from Jochiwon to Cheongju, although it would be a nuisance in winter or in rush hours. On a good day it's 10-15 minutes in a taxi. But it would be more practical to live in the provided housing most of these jobs offer and visit Cheongju when you like.
If you are new to this you might inquire about EPIK or some other government program. Cheongju isn't on most people's lists and so it would be easier to be placed there than in one of the big cities. But again, it's not such a bad place. |

Cheers for the info dude!!
I want to go there because i have a friend from home who teaches there, lived there for 3 years and tells me is exactly the type of place id be looking to start out in Korea. I trust his judgement hence the reason for trying to find a suitable gig.
Yeah ive had a few GEPIK offers but was kinda wary about that? From what ive read the GEPIK thing doesnt seem to be too reliable, or maybe im just reading people whove had bad experiences with it??? Have you done it??
Im not really worried about anything in Korea to be honest, im pretty chilled out and figure its all part of the experience. Id just rather be located close to Cheongju to be honest. |

Three bars technically .
Road King. Another one right next door, and one across the street.
Road King is typically most popular. |

Is Road King the one near the Beatles Bar? If so, then I'd stay away from that place as it's the haunt of a very anti-foreigner hogwon owner who is a friend of the bar's owner. The Beatles Bar is owned by a very nice guy who has an amazing assortment of Classic Rock, Jazz, Blues, etc. He also serves up decent food, American micro-beers, and good Scotch at affordable prices. |
