I just got a job offer for Bucheon. Originally I wanted to go to Ilsan but I was wondering if anyone has any imput comparing the two.
What do you like about whichever city? Which is closer to seoul? Which has more things to do so I don't have to go to Seoul to be entertained? Cultural sites? Any parks or mountains or lakes i.e. outdoorsy stuff? Night life? Anything and everything relating to quality of life?
Also on a side but not unrelated note, does anyone know anything about :
School Name : Yakdae Elementary School
School Homepage : http://www.yakdae.es.kr/
Nearest Subway station : Songnae station, Seoul Metro line #1
[10~20 mins by bus from the station to school. The school is near to Joongdong Hyundai Dept. Store and your accommodation is right behind of the deptment store where is most foreigner's favorate place in Bucheon. |

Bucheon and Ilsan are probably pretty equal distances from Seoul. If you're near the Hyundai department store I know in Bucheon, it's a pretty good location. There are lots of restaurants/bars/shopping nearby and it's probably about a thirty minute bus ride to Hongdae.
What Ilsan has going for it over Bucheon, in my opinion, is Lake Park. Both have lots of shopping, restaurants, bars and are reasonably close to Seoul- but Lake Park is a great place to run and has a lot of random stuff in it (like a toilet museum and cactus arboretum). Bucheon has a pretty nice park too, though.
If you have friends in Ilsan, there is a bus that goes from Bucheon terminal to Madu Station (in Ilsan) and is only about 45 minutes (but doesn't come all that often).
I honestly think either location is pretty decent, although I'd personally choose Ilsan over Bucheon. |

Bucheon to Hongdae in thirty minutes??? I used to live right by that Hyundai and took the 1300 bus to Hongdae nearly every saturday afternoon. It rarely took 30 minutes. Maybe early in the morning or late at night, but not when there's any traffic. Count on an hour, sometimes 1.5 if traffic's bad.
I also taught at a school near Baekma hospital in Ilsan. It usally took me about an hour to get there from Noksapyung station by way of the brown line and a bus from Susaek (digital media center?). |
