|
|
Hello everyone,
I'm thinking that I should get a criminal record check (I've got a notarized copy of mine from March 2008, but I heard that won't do . . . apparently, they must think I hopped on a plane and went back to Canada to commit crimes while working in Korea since July).
How do I get one from Canada while I'm living in Korea? Do I need to get my parents to do get it, and go through the annoying process of getting it notarized and then stamped by the consulate for me?
I bet some other Canadian must have gone through this.
I'm thinking of applying to get a S.M.O.E. job (to begin after my hagwon-like contract ends in July).
Thanks. |

Your 'best bet' is to go home at the end of your present contract and get a 'local' police CRC - your parents can't pick it up for you because of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act unless you give them power of attorney. If you have enough time, you can send the RCMP fingerprints - they're extremely picky about the having them done on the right form in the right way (easier said than done in K-land).. and having the proper Kimberly 'sign off' on the form. If you go this route, you might get the CRC before the sun runs out of hydrogen.
K-Immi will not accept an 'online' CRC.
K-Immi will insist on a 'vulnerable sector' search. If your local/provincial police dept. does not have the words 'vunerable sector search' on the form, you will have to convince K-Immi that a 'level 3' CRC conduced on all three data bases: CPIC, PRIS and LEIP is a VSS.
P.S. The embassy in Seoul (or the consulate in Busan) does not "notarize" anything... you swear a 'statutory declaration' as to the authencity of the CRC.
Now... all that being said, someone will post something about how they got a CRC from 'X' city by mail... and they had no problems with K-Immi. |

WINNIPEG POLICE SERVICES WEBSITE. Print the form, fill it in, mail it. CRC with VSS for any Canadian regardless of your address. I priority posted to Winnipeg and had them send the check to a friend in Canada. My friend then priority posted it to me here in Korea. Total time - 12 days. You will probably then have to go to the Embassy in Seoul and get the Statement of Declaration thing or whatever its called. I didnt need that, but my immi officer must have been having a good day.... |

last year i needed a new police check for my renewal and my parents did it for me from home. i had to sign that it was for me and send a fax of birth cert and drivers license but they got it all done.
then i had to bring it to the canadian consulte and have it notarized and immi took it without any problems at all! |

I am that person who will say you can get your CRC (with VSS) from 'X' city and that you will have no problems with Korean immigration.
OculisOrbis speaks the truth. It's all completely legal. It satisfies Korean immigrations reuirement for VSS, while at the same time avoids having to head all the way back to Canada just to apply for the CRC.
I faxed my papers to my parents and had them send it to save a few extra days. I had it in my hand within three weeks of going to the Winnipeg police department. The extra delay was having the CRC sent back to my parents and having them go to the local embassy to have it notarized.
Good luck,
Ryan |

I just got my CRC this month.
All I had to do was.... get the application form from my local police dept (i'm from Nova Scotia) and fill it out. (they sent it to me through an email)
I then faxed them the form back with copies of 2 pieces of id ( passport, birth cert). I also had to pay a small fee.
After it was processed my mother picked it up at the police station. She sent it back to me. I then went to the canadian embassy in Seoul to have it notarized.
No fingerprints were needed.
Call the Canadian embassy if you have any questions |

I'm gonna try Winnipeg. I've never been there, but their form isn't 1/2 as detailed as what I had to fill out for my CRC when I was in Canada. (Plus, RCMP requires payment by money order along with fingerprints . . . . that's a lot of work to try and get done in Korea --- Winnipeg doesn't require that!).
Thanks for your tips/suggestions! |

Went to the Winnipeg website. http://winnipeg.ca/police/BPR/info_request.stm and checked the requirements. Looks ok just wondering about the waiver? Did you have to do the waiver portion when you applied by mail? Can I just put my Saskatchewan address on the 612 application and have it sent there to be forwarded on?
This is amazing news for me if I can get it done this way as I am in New Zealand at the moment and have a return ticket to Seoul that was booked before all the new changes took place and I had no idea that my regular Rcmp check (which incidentally was sent to Switzerland instead of New Zealand) would no longer cut it. |

I am not from Winnipeg.
I got mine from them and had it sent directly to my address in Korea. It took 4 weeks using regular mail service.
When I went to the Canadian Embassy to get it notarized there were 6 other Canadians there and they all had the Winnipeg Police check.
At Immi... stamp stamp... thank you Mr. Bond....
I also had done the RCMP fingerprint check from here in Korea... what a pain... got it though, but if i need a CRC again it is Winnipeg all the way.... |

My recruiter said that if I visit Canada for a couple of weeks in between jobs, then I will have to submit a new CRC. She said I should get on that ASAP.
My question is this:
If I visit, do they need to CRC to make sure I didn't commit any backyard BBQ related stabbings or traffic BC bud during my 2 weeks there?
It doesn't make sense, really. I got my original CRC, to teach here in the first place, several weeks before actuallly coming to Korea.
Why do I need a new CRC if I go back to Canada for a week or 2?
Is it just because... Immigration likes to consider me a brand new person every time I come to Korea?
Sorry, to reiterate my original question:
Should I apply for the new CRC now, if I'm accepting a new position in Korea, and if I'm planning on visiting Canada for a week or 2?
Thank you. |

I'm wondering if anyone has used the Winnipeg Police Dept criminal record check recently. I will probably do it, but before I invest the time and money, I want to make sure that Korean immigration is still accepting them. I can get one from my RCMP branch back home, but it's going to be a headache. Winnipeg would be much easier. |

I was recently told local checks would no longer work. They require a check from the RCMP. A local check is from any town or regional police force. Obtaining an RCMP check from outside Canada will be a fun-filled, timely process. |
