|
|
I've been trying to sell this desktop computer of mine before I move to Japan in March. I've had it on half a dozen websites since November at a going price of 1.3mil and the only offers I get lowball so much its almost a little offensive (one guy wanted it for 100k, the average asking price is around 200k... ridiculous).
I've decided its impossible to sell because English teachers are cheap which might be why none of you have girlfriends.
Anyway, I've decided to ship it. How would I go about doing this? I knew one guy who put his computer in one large container with plenty of paper stuffing before shipping it and it arrived with several parts broken.
I was thinking of removing all the components, putting them in their original packages with some styrofoam and shipping it that way. Good idea?
Is there anywhere that will do this for me? I really don't need the headache right now.
Cheers! |

Take the graphics card out and pack it. Take out the motherboard, only keep the cpu cooler on if it's a stock cooler, if it's one of those big custom ones then take that off because it will probably cause problems.
take out the drives, just put em in anti static bags and wrap em. take out the psu and wrap it up.
I would say you should try and put the motherboard in its original box and consider doing this with the gpu too.
Don't ship it as a whole, it will probably break.
Throw away the case and buy a new one in japan; it'll cost too much to ship it and it will be a pain to take.
Consider shipping the monitor if you have the original packing with all the polystyrene etc.
To be honest I wouldn't overpack stuff, hdds, graphics cards and ram are all pretty robust and just need heavily wrapping with blister packing stuff. |

Hugekebab is mistaken. The HD is the most prone to damage. Be careful how you pack that. I'd consider keeping it in my carry on. Back it up before transport. I'd just take the expensive, small things like memory, HD, and graphics card. You're going to have to remove the CPU cooler, stock or not. You don't want it to bend in shipment. PS and case are heavy/big so leave them out. |

I concur. Break the computer down. Take the essential (expensive) parts.
When you get to Japan, go buy all the things you need. Keyboards, power supplies, cases, etc... can all be bought very cheap.
I would take your Hard Drives, GPU, Mobo, processor, and RAM. The rest can be replaced.
Also, computer parts aren't very hard to unload. There's a Korean guy on here that has bought used PC parts from me. I posted them up on the B/S and he's bought them every time. I can give you his screen name if you are interested. |

Just take the HD out, and wrap it in a tshirt. It'll be fine. Stuff the case with socks and/or tshirts, and put it in a suitcase with other clothes. I brought my from america like this and it was fine. |
