"2nd hoof-and-mouth disease outbreak found north of Seoul "
http://joongangdaily.joins.com/article/view.asp?aid=2915350

The cows were from a native stock. Apparently there are 15-16 cases reported a year from Korean farms since 2000

Why were they protesting US beef then? I thought they were protesting the mad-cow disease, but it doesn't make any sense to protest beef from another country if it's also a problem with their own cattle stock. Am I missing something?

not even close

it's like comparing lung cancer to skin cancer: one is often deadly the other is rarely if ever so

Ah thanks. Now I feel dumb. I thought the name changed depending on who had it - cattle or humans.

While they are very different if either were found and spread in NZ we would quickly become a third world country

It's not much concern for human health, unless you work close with cattle. But it would be devastating to farmers if we see here what happened in the UK a few years ago. Then, a foot and mouth outbreak lead to the slaughter of 10million cattle, sheep and pigs to prevent the spread. They actually had to call in the army to help out. Pretty much all you need is one case for the entire farm and surrounding area to be loaded into a furnace.

Koreans aren't protesting US Beef now.....that was so 2009.....now they're stuffing their faces gleefully with US beef which is half the price of Korean beef.....as long as they get in the comment between mouthfuls that Korean beef tastes better then their conscious won't bother them.

I have eaten U.S. beef, NZ beef, Canadian, Aussie and I do not care what anyone says; korean beef tastes' terrible. I have been to korean cattle "ranches" where some have had 300 head of cattle and some 50 head of cattle...cattle have been feed scrapes from the local restaurants in the area along with hay, corn, etc... I have seen it with my own eyes, big azz bongo trucks backing up to the fence and dumping the dump truck full of food scrape onto the ground!
I will never ever knowingly buy korean beef and most korean products for that matter. If it don't say Aussie/NZ/U.S. etc beef, it ain't going in this body!

I seem to recall that the bulk of the mad cow protests were taking place in 2008.
