I ended up in an impossible employment situation in a hogwan in Korea. About six months into my contract I did a runner and came home to Canada. Am I able to return to Korea in the future to try again at another hogwan? Is there some way for me to check if I will have a problem if I return to Korea? Could my future Korean employers become aware of the fact that I ran on my first contract?

On the record they can't- off the record they can if you try to process another E2. In some strange way- not really- the employers get the immigration to cough up the information on their screen of whom the last employer was that sponsored you. Then- not uncommon at all- they phone that employer and spew garbage about you (in my opinion 99% of the time- lies).

I've never heard of anyone having trouble just simply re-entering on a vistor visa. Perhaps that's your only option if you're going to return.

I've heard that if you return to a different province on an E-2 you are ok. Not sure how true this is.

Go cowboy - working legally is nothing but a waste and disgrace in my opinion. You're from Canada; you have the time. Use it.

I did the run 4 times at least. There is never a problem. Even if you don't have a release letter, you can still work. Either illegally or your new boss will pay a bribe on your behalf. There certainly is no problem with coming back to the country. These days they only stop you if you have brown skin.

Try and get the visa in Canada and c if it goes through. If it does ur sorted and if it doesnt u havent had a waisted trip!

Shawner I would agree with your statement about the release system if you had run one time.

However, four times indicates something else my man.

Its as simple as the law of probability. You can't always have been the "victim" and your various bosses the "villain"..... Laughing

One run under the right circumstances can be attributed to a last resort choice.

My bf worked in Korea for a year then signed on for another six months to help the school find a new teacher. 4 months into that second contract, his pay starts arriving later and later, the director gets fired for embezzling and 100 students leave. He figures the school is going to close, so he jumps ship and goes home (he was the sole foreign teacher). He wants to go back with me (I did 2 years and went home) but it turns out the school survived and the Korean teachers and secretary are still there. What does he do about past experience? If someone calls up to check references, it may not be too pretty.

I had a meeting with the Chief Consular officer at an embassy in a European country just today to check on the status of my E-2 Visa. I left Korea six months ago from a very bad condition when my father was ill.

I was told that I can return on this visa up until the time that it expires and that I should have no fears about returning to Korea.

When I return it will be with a ticket on to Osaka, just in case this Embassy officer is wrong.
