hi guys. so i was dumb and i thought i just needed a plug adapter (the little plastic thing that i connect to the us cord so i can plug it into the korean socket) when i plugged in my xbox360... well... right when i plugged it in the socket popped... so does that mean my whole xbox is fried or does that mean that my power brick is fried? i just bought it from america and my friend brought it over and it was the first time pluggin it in. i just opened it and everything and now i can't play.... any recommendations or input? i believe my warranty still covers it but do i have to send it back to america then? what do i do??? if i juss buy a korean power brick would that work? what do u think?

I don't think this is because you were dumb. Xboxes are supposed to be dual voltage, meaning they should work just fine with a power adaptor without a transformer needed. Look at your xbox power adaptor's box and see if it says 110/220 or 110-240 or something similar. If so, it is dual voltage and thus only needs a power adaptor.
Try plugging it in without using a power strip. Power strips aren't designed to using a lot of high wattage, powerful electronics like space heaters and what not. Try plugging it directly into the wall. You could have had too many things on your power strip. If not, you might have to be a new xbox power adaptor and have it shipped to you. It shouldn't be too expensive. Hopefully your xbox isn't fried, i doubt it is, because that shouldn't happen. |

My Xbox died last week (my guess is the video card fried) I called Microsoft of Korea and they told me since my 360 is an American console, I need to send it to Japan to be fixed. Even better, my console is month month out of warranty, meaning it'll cost at least 120k to fix, plus about 80k to ship. I ended up buying a new jasper console from the States on ebay as it was cheaper than fixing! |

I had a buddy do the same thing as he had a modded Korean xbox and a new one he bought in the U.S. While the power bricks look identical except for the cord, they unfortunately DO need a converter. He made the mistake of plugging the wrong one in and "pop" he heard when he turned it on fried the brick. The console was fine, but the brick was toast. A new power brick was a bit of a pain to get but he did and off the top of my head he paid in the ballpark of 60-70000 won I believe at Yongsan.
Good luck................ |
