It's been suggested that I should try to play more games in my University Freshman classes. I am going to try and "toe the line here", and do what is being suggested. Does anyone know of any EASY games that can be played in a VERY CROWDED classroom with 25-30 students.

Thanks in advance.

There are a lot of really simple ideas for games in the idea cookbook section of Dave's home site. Some are great, some not so hot, some are terrible. You have to sift through them to see what will work for you.
Also, if you check under the teaching kids section there are more game ideas.
Good luck

I just started my freshman week and had a very sucessful game that broke the ice really well.
I made a hand out filled with classroom english words and their Korean translation and also flash cards with Hangul on one side and the english on the other. I then gave out the handout and went over it with the students. After this I asked the students to form groups and give the group a name (this was cute...my favourite name was 'fly to the Sky'). I wrote the group names on the board and showed the class the hangul side of the flash card and students had to tell me what it meant in English. I gave points to the group with the correct answer.
This was very sucessful and made everyone enthusiastic. Even the shy students were competing!! I gave the winning team chocolates too.

Oh and I made 10 flash cards of things not on the hand out as a challenge and it really got them using their brains......it was so much fun and the students left class feeling happy and excited about the next class!! I was very surprised at how competitive they all became!!!

I hope this helps you, PM me if you want a copy of my hand out Very Happy

Check out the game ideas on this site as well:
http://www.esltalk.com/forums/

I recently bought some books that might be useful to you, they are all by Penny Ur (Cambridge):
Grammar Practice Activities, Five-Minute Activities, and Discussions that Work.

One of the ideas in the "Discussions' book was to play survival games. (The N.A.S.A. Game or Stranded on a desert island). You can probably do a search and find these in more detail on this site or on the net.

Another conversation game that works well for me is the M and M game. Basically each color represents a fragment that the students have to complete. After they complete the fragment, they can eat their M and M. (For example, RED: Something I like is...). Each color's fragment should be capable of producing several different responses.

One more idea is the "who am I?' Game. Have one students go out of the room and decide on a secret identity (a somewhat famous Korean person works best) for them. The have the rest of the class ask just yes or no questions of that person until they finally say, "Are you Cho Su-mi?" and guess the person's identity.

The idea cookbook on this site has lots of good stuff. Check there as well, but I highly recommend the books. They are great for quick ideas--and it's more organized to look something up in a book than searching the web. The http://www.bogglesworld.com site also has some ideas for adults that might help you out.
