He added: "When I heard that Korea wanted to promote bibimbap globally, I just gave my own opinion about it in an honest manner as a foreigner who has lived in Korea for 30 years.

"But the Korean society is unwilling to accept it."

Kuroda also said that he has been feeling unsafe in Korea since making the remark. "I received calls, threatening to kill me or asking the location of my residence. I may have to seek protection from the police," he said

Wow. Japanese guy insults Korean dish as "a humor" (who writes this crap?) and receives death threats? That's insane.

It's very true. When you mix it up it's like some ______ed up form of babyfood. All you taste is cochujang.

Whenever I order it I always ask them not to put the cochuchang in it.

Bibimbap is not one of Korea's better dishes. In fact, it's pretty bad. It lags way behind a lot of the food there, so I can't quite understand why they would look to market it to a global audience. On the other hand, doelseot bibimbap is more palitable.

Korea does not really accept criticism.
I'd say there is a general lack of freedom of expression in this culture as a whole.

They are hurting themselves by cutting themselves off from alternative or dissenting viewpoints, particularly when it comes to the international community.

Wow..

I can only begin to imagine the kinds of looks the Koreans would give when asking for a bibimbap without gotchu jang!!

Isn't the whole point of the dish having lots of gotchu jang?

Anyway.. I really like this dish. Plenty of gotchu jang makes it very very tasty for me !!! Very Happy

I'm confused about why someone, with all the good food here, would select bibimbap as their choice of a dish to market globally. Scenario:

And now, I give you the food, the greatest food in the United States, the cuisine that makes America famous, the most delectable marriage of form and function, the greatest food in the world: The HAM SANDWICH! Just take some deli rye, add ham, swiss, mayo, and dijon mustard! Come to America! Your ham sandwich awaits!

Doesn't sound so good, right?

You just answered your own question. Ham sandwiches are in Train stations and Airports worldwide.
What Korean food would do better globally?

In my opinion anytime you mix up food completely, it looks disgusting. I hate the way they mix thier noodles up with that slimy black sauce that they serve. It's disgusting . Koreans really like that stuff for some reason. Any time I eat spaghetti with some sauce, I never mix the sauce in.

Bulgogi

Dalk Galbi

Various forms of jeon

That said, however, bibimbap is not that bad. It was one of the only foods I knew how to order when I first came to Korea. I found it palateable but was always looking for that better dish. That's when I tried a meal of soot-bool-galbi. That was the very moment I became a theist.

If someone said to me, a Canadian, that poutine looks and tastes like vomit, I would probably laugh and agree with them. I hate the stuff. Does that make me unpatriotic? Should I send hate mail and death threats to Koreans or Americans who say poutine is vile?

Koreans are so touchy. I can't think of any other country that has a bigger inferiority complex than Korea. It's one of the things I despise the most about this country.

I am really shocked that some of you have had limited experience with korea food and have made quick judgements about it.
I have had just about every dish here and I can say there are quite a few excellent dishes that I have personally experienced. Homemade dishes are many times better than store bought ones!

Ttakbokutang, Korigomtang, Sogogimuguk and ttorsotbibimbamp are just a few of the dishes that are my favorite.
The everything is red sauce nonsense really makes me wonder about some of you!
Before you make your opinion about korean cuisine, experience all of it first then come back and give us the lowdown!

The black noodles you talk about is from Beijing and called Jajangmyeon.
