I am thinking about going to Taiwan to teach English, now that my contract has expired and I don't wish to spend over $2k CA to apply for a new CRC in Canada. Does Taiwan have an office in Seoul where one can apply for a tourist visa? Thanks. |

you don't need to apply; you can fly in no problem. |

So Immigration has changed its policy. I had to obtain a tourist visa in Toronto before going to Taiwan in 2002. Thanks. |

You also need a CRC if you plan to get a work visa.

To obtain a work permit to teach in Taiwan, you must:
1. be a college or university graduate ― diplomas need to be authenticated by the Taipei Economical and Cultural Office (TECO) in Canada;1
2. possess teaching qualifications, such as a university degree or college diploma ― all transcripts should be provided;2
3. be at least 20 years of age or older;
4. be a native speaker of the language you will teach;
5. receive a health check ― requirements to be confirmed by employer; and
6. undergo an RCMP criminal record check ― authenticated by TECO.3
3 Canadians already residing in Taiwan can obtain an RCMP Criminal Record Check by requesting the RCMP fingerprint form in person or by mail. The form is completed by the applicant at a local police station in Taiwan, then mailed directly to the RCMP in Canada. This form must also be authenticated by the Taipei Economical and Cultural Office (TECO) in Canada. This service is not available in Taiwan.

wow really?
no, I've flown in twice no problem, but I'm from the U.S. - still - I chalked it up to their pro-business attitude the lax visa rules as opposed to China. |

I'm in the process of applying for Taiwan. The bolded section is only true if you are applying for public schools. Buxibans only require a university degree (according to the recruiters I'm using plus various websites). |

Thanks a lot. I had no idea that the CRC was required for a work permit in Taiwan. It wasn't back in 2002, and none of the advertised teaching positions there stipulate a CRC. I guess I have to return to Canada and apply for a CRC there to save time. On-line applications through the RCMP take 120 days to process. |

Sorry, I should have only bolded the teacher certificate bit. You do need transcripts as well (as far as I'm aware). |
