For the sartorially minded:
Which city is best for tailors that make custom made men's suits at lower prices? I understand that you have to be careful about quality, as if it they are claiming Armani fabric and labeling at at a ridiculously inexpensive price, it is likely too good to be true. But Asia is known for having tailors that can hook you up with great suits at bargain prices.
So where am I looking at? Hong Kong? Bangkok? Anyone knowledgeable on this subject, feel free to enlighten me. |

Well, if you're in Seoul then Itaewon is okay for suits. I haven't bought one myself but a lot of users of the website claim to have good experiences at some of the tailors. They're also fairly inexpensive - around W300,000 is the price I most often hear quoted.
do a search on here and you'll come across a number of thread already discussing this topic. |

I had a suit tailored in Bangkok for $75USD. It was a bargaining deal and it was fairly nice. Not sure how to tell the difference in fabric but I've had it since 2005. Still in great condition. It's a lot cheaper in Bangkok imho. I would guess that HK would be fairly expensive. |

I understand Hong Kong is best place to go for quality dress suits and shirts but on price Shanghai isn't bad either.
Last summer I paid about 400 RMB (60,000 Won) for five tailor made dress shirts from a tailor in Shanghai and which I still wear everyday for work. |

I had all of my wedding clothing made for peanuts in Hoi An, Vietnam. A little town on the coast which is mostly filled with tailoring shops. Nice work, fast, and lots of local and imported silks. It's further to go but if you need to justify a vacation... |

Thanks for this reply as well as the other posts.
I came across a plethora of tailors with good reputations while studying the scene in Saigon, Vietnam. That is beginning to look as a really good travel/shopping option.
Any more options or great deals you've made in the past, feel free to post your story. |

I think Seoul is pretty good.
shenzhen is also pretty good for price with many HKers coming over for cheap tailoring. HK is best for quality I think if you research a good tailor |

I heard it recommended that you buy the fabric first yourself, and then take it to the tailor... that's usually where they'll try to bait and switch. |

Trip Advisor lists 'Rajawongse' next door to The Landmark Hotel as the #1 thing to do in Bangkok. You can have a custom suit made there for $300 and it is top notch (there are photos of George Bush Sr. having his suits tailored there). If you do a search you can also order it online through their website (I think it's dress-for-success). |

Yeah, I met a guy in Bangkok who bought a bunch of suits for a couple grand from that place. He was pretty happy, and they seemed pretty good quality. |

I hear major cities in India are a good bet because many Indians who learned how to make suits in England returned to set up shops in their motherland.
I'd first search on the Web for reputable tailors, though. |

Hoi An, Vietnam. Make sure you go to one of the nicer places and not the small ones that just wanna sell you a cheap suit.
If you ask one of the nice hotels for a recommendation, they'll tell you.
I went to this one place a few weeks ago..name escapes me at the moment. Baly I think? |
