My sis and her hubby are coming this way but don't know which option they should choose:

1. Buy a multi destination ticket from Canada Air - ex. Edm - Seoul - Hong Kong - Bangkok - Toyko - Edm or

2. Buy a round trip ticket from Edm- Seoul and then while here look for the cheapest tickets and choose their destinations that way.

I'm thinking 2 is best because it might be cheaper and also feels more spontaneous.

Any opinions on this?

A fellow Edmontonian! In January I would want out too.

Were I to do this, I would fly Westjet from Edmonton to Vancouver in order to avoid the delights of Air Canada. Fly an Asian carrier (Eva / JAL, Sing Air, etc.) to China. From Beijing or Hong Kong, take a local cheapie flight to Bangkok, Bali, Philippines, wherever, returning to China (Tiger, Jet, Asia Air). Fly from China to Korea with return to China. Take return flight to Vancouver - Edmonton.

If you are joining their adventure, fly Korea to Beijing or similar.

You can book your flights on Travelocity or some similar site and compare fares and sites. Book as early as possible for better rates.

What's the reasoning for flying to China and not to Korea? Air Canada is not so terrible that I would suggest buying numerous tickets just to get to one place.

The reason I'm suggesting you fly to China as a return ticket, make your holiday flights within SE Asia, and then have a return ticket from China to Korea is that if you fly from Edmonton to Korea first, it's more expensive to fly out of Korea for your holiday trip and seats always seem to be limited.

Admittedly, it's not going to make a huge difference. If you would prefer a less complicated itinerary, you might fly JAL or a Japanese carrier through Narita / Osaka to Incheon. I've just had poor service with Air Canada over and over and don't want to begin or end a holiday again with gritted teeth...
