|
|
On Thursday I was given two warning letters and a notice of termination of contract in 30 days. I am 9.5months in on the contract and one of the warning letters was totally unfair BS, the other just unfair. Anyway, I'm going to be fighting this to get all the money I can from this hagwon and hopefully some justice for the stress and problems this is causing me...but that's not the point of this email.
I have made quite a nice life for myself here in Korea and there are reasons I wish to stay.
Option 1 is to get the letter of release and transfer to a new hagwon. Probably the easiest to do. Sure I stay employed, but I was really wanting to do some travel between getting a new job.
Option 2 is to do a visa run, come back on a tourist visa and have more time to do some personal things, update some of my skills, do some travel, have a bit of a rest and allow myself to be a bit more picky about finding the right job.
Option 2 is what I want but I am not clear on the problems I will face finding a new job with a tourist visa. I have some questions:
- Will I have to get all new E-2 visa required documents?
- I would have liked to have had a teaching reference, will it be a problem having worked here as a teacher but no reference?
- Will I have a hard time finding a new offer because of the previous termination of contract?
Advice appreciated |

When they terminate you, you should get a LOR for that visa you are on.
From the sounds of it though, this guy will be a bit of trouble for you. So you may be better off just leaving it off the resume, or at least being vague about it.
For a new visa all the doccs are required, and the Criminal Background must be less than 6 months old.
I would recommend trying to set up a job now. You have a month of crap waiting for you and I would guess hes not going to be doing you any favors if another place calls to ask him about you. So have something set up while you are here on his dime not yours. If you hit it off with a school I doubt they would care about having you start a few weeks later so you can travel and arrive fresh and happy to your new job.
If you decide to travel, just start the whole process again fresh. Have all the doccs ready and interview or go through a recruiter. Up to you on what to say about your current job.
The only odd factor in this is what will the boss say if anyone calls him.
Good luck because there isnt really a right answer here. |
