A floor mat made of dwenjang?
Actually, it's Dwenjang nyuh, which refers to a girl who is completely dependent, doesn't work, and basks in the luxuries of Starbucks, Chanel, and the like. You know, like nearly the entire 19-30 year old female demographic! |

| "Nyuh" or 녀 is a colloquial and often impolite word (when used directly) for a female. The "dwenjang" in this case has no real contextual inference. Someone just made it up. It's possible to say "Dwenjang Nam" for males as well. |

Dwenjang as in the soup. The expression means a girl that wears the latest clothes and sits around drinking expensive coffee, but can't afford to buy food at home and so has to eat Dwenjang guk a very cheap meal. Well that was how it was explained to me |

One of my favorite dishes. I like it especially with a heaping spoonful of cheonggukjang powder mixed it. Mmmmm... |

That very well could be true. Numerous people have told me that there is no meaning for it, hence my previous claim |

I guess that for a very brief time, I could have been described by that. One night during a very serious lapse of judgement, I spent many hours at an expensive hostess bar. Afterwards, I was nearly broke. And only had enough money for soup for the rest of the month. |

I think you might be described with the "nom" ending haha.
Long live bikini and lingerie bars. I hope many more open and the prices drop though. Hopefully to the level of skimpy bars in the wonderful land of Oz. I have fond memories of paying 50 cents to get a skimpy to take her top off. Good value for money. |

Hey! I'm actually the male voice in that segment, and the way it was described to me was that it's more of a girl who blows all of her money on clothes/accessories/hair/makeup and so she's forced to eat dwenjang-chiige all month to make up for it.
These other articles however seem pretty in-depth!

It means a girl that is mostly concerned with her image/looks. A girl who wears all brands and has to eat/drink high end foods/drinks is a dwainjeong yeo (ja).
It's been around for a few years. I've used it for at least 2. |

Two theories about the origin of the word:
된장녀의 어원에 대해서는 설이 분분하다. �똥인지 된장인지 모르는 여자들�이라는 데에서 유래했다는 설, 욕설 �젠장�이 인터넷상에서 �된장�으로 변용되면서 �젠장녀->된장녀�로 바뀌었다는 설
1) A girl that can't tell the difference between 똥 and 된장
2) It comes from 젠장녀 --> 된장녀
I suspect it's the latter as the former is too convoluted. Plus a lot of people say 덴장 instead of 젠장 in order to avoid swearing so there's already a precedent for that. |
