I understand that some religion debates get heated, and some people get offended or annoyed. But what harm has come from the open debate in an appropriate forum?

Not trying to be a problem here, just curious. If you have a solid answer, perhaps it could be pinned to the sticky?

Honestly, there are many conversations about living in a foreign culture which cannot be asked without a discussion of religion. Religion holds a key to understanding cultural organization.

But you have a cite to keep, and rules which must be respected. So. . .

Voltaire: "I will not believe in a word you say, but I will die for your right to say it."

That is, a lot of the crap people say is just crap; but a tolerance of crap has real rewards and value.

I would also like to know. It seems there is MILF thread after MILF thread but the second anyone starts to talk about the history of Christianity in Korea it gets pulled. I wanted to start a thread about a temple stay but of course this violates the TOS. I don't want to post about it and jeopardize my Dave's membership Sad

There was a very very long discussion that stayed polite and on track for a long time, but inevitably regressed into the usual negative banter that accompanies religious talks.

Without exception, all threads discussing religion always devolved into religion-bashing. For that reason, the only religion-related threads that are allowed are few, such as those with people asking about church services, where places of worship are (churches, mosques, synagogues, temples), and even temple stays (as long as it doesn't start into a general discussion on religion).
