I work at a hagwon, my contract is coming to an end in a few months. Is there such thing as a tax statement or something that would give a run down of the tax I have paid this year. I want to get something from the tax department to make sure the boss hasnt been gyping me. cheers

I too would like to know about this.

Was looking at UK immigration procedures, and they'd want such a document from me.

Asked my boss for one about a month ago, he said "sure", but think it slipped his mind. It's a small school, so I don't think he bothers with such things.

Any ideas?

Go to the local tax office with your ARC and the business information like business number, address, name of the business and the owner's name. They will look it up and print you a statement of the taxes paid on by the school for you.

You will notice one of four things. 1) Taxes were appropriately deducted at the correct rate or close to it, 2)Taxes were improperly deducted and you owe money, 3)Taxes were improperly deducted and the school took more money than they paid to the tax office or 4) No taxes were paid at all to the tax office.

You can file a tax return and you may get a refund, have to pay or uncover some illegal activity on the part of your hogwon.

Drop the hint that you are going to get the tax statement yourself from the tax office and you need the information above. You'll either get the information or you'll get a run around and asked not to do that in return for an extra bonus of some sort.

Cheers!

Thanks for the info, but if I go now and get it, it won't have info for the complete year.

Is there a way of obtaining a tax certificate for the entire year, after the fact?

You can get the tax statement for 2003 now. Your school should have settled up and reported everything by now. Tax season is about to start in Korea.

It only takes about 30 minutes to take care of it, providing it's not busy. I don't know if you can get the information for the few months of this year now.

If you are leaving soon then get a statement before you leave.

You can always visit the tax office and get the tax statement for 2003, assuming your school is registered with the tax office and is paying taxes as required. They can tell you more. Get a korean speaking friend to help you out.

Cheers
