Pardon my ignorance, but how does one extend one's stay with a plane ticket? Is the e-ticket printout the travel agents send to you via e-mail enough? Or do you need something else? Boarding passes are what you get right before the flight and that's different.

I've only flown as an adult 6 times or so. I always used e-tickets. Would immigration offices accept that? Or must I go to the airport and check with the airline company on getting a "ticket". It's just that e-tickets look like they could be forged so easily that I don't know why immigration would accept them.

Good point. If you haven't already solved the issue, you may want to call the all-purpose immigration hotline at 1345 (I believe that's the number, no area code required) to confirm.

Even though the e-tickets look like they can be easily forged, I assume it will be sufficient for your purposes.

If you are asking about an extension for the purposes of tourism or wrapping up your affairs at the end of your contract, then a simple e-ticket is OK.
