I don't know much about camera stuff but I'm learning. Would this fit my 500D?

The EOS 500D is compatible with Canon's full range of EF and EF-S lenses (to my knowledge)

�Have a look on your camera where the lens mounts onto the body. If you see a red cirlce and a white dot / square, then your camera is compatible with both

Yea my camera has both. Read some reviews and it's not for me.

Ok good! I don't think my current lens (18-55mm) is compatable, but I'm looking for another - mabye the 75-300mm you mentioned.
Would that be compatable - i.e. red dot?
