So I am going to exchange a few grand at KB bank for the first time tomorrow. . I want to sign up for the overseas remittance thing so i can transfer my money through any KB ATM to my home bank in States. I am thinking the wire free will be lower as well. I never have time to make it into KB bank during their work hours so this would be a huge help. Can foreigners get the overseas remittance account by registering at the bank(with proper identification) or is it some kind of Korean nationals only bullshit? I guess if i can't get overseas remittance, i just money wire in person at the bank for a slightly higher price right? Thanks and look forward to the responses. |

Hi There,
Assuming you already have an account you can register for the ATM remittance no problem. Take in your passport and arc card and account details to send to including address, bank address and phone number to register for the first time.
Exchange is '외훤' pronounced wea hwan' .
You can probably find the exchange counter anyway and ATM is 'ja dong gim ji'. There is an overseas remittance button at the ATM to show them.
There is a different form for the ATM transfer and the usual one but they might have a brochure on it in the bank, making it easy.
Good Luck it worked for me and saves a fair amount of time, money and bother. |

Hello,
I have a KB Bank account and I wanted to do this via online banking but the English version of the site has no tab for transferring $$$ overseas. Has anyone done this before? What should I be looking for? |

The English version of their website is not used for overseas remittance. They want you to bring your passport in so they can write in it (illegally) and monitor how much you transfer to USD or whatever other currency you want. |

Have you ever gone into the bank to transfer money in person?
The other day I just went to the ATM and tried to send money and it worked. I didn't have to go into the bank to set anything up formally. The ATM had a record of all my previous transactions that I had previously done in the bank. It was super easy and I think around 5,000 won to send. I believe there was a 6,000,000 won limit on what you could send at one time. |

Is the exchange rate used for the ATM transfer the same as if you did it in person? I recently sent a bit of money home using the ATM to test it out and the rate seemed a bit lower... |

I'm not exactly sure. I know that I just sent a small amount, 50,000 won just to test it out. It was just over 40 dollars (CDN) when it made it into my bank account 3-4 days later. I think that included the fee to send it. |
