Hey everybody! I'm an Eagle Scout, and I live in the boondocks, so I have a leatherman attached to my belt in case of bear attack. It has two knives, both of which are under three inches and folding, one's a straight-edged blade and another has a serrated edge.
However, I can't find any laws regarding carrying knives. Help? |

Knives are completely illegal in Korea.
This is why Korea is a very safe country.
It is also why Korean people cut food with scissors. |

Seriously? Would a leatherman really help you in the event of a bear attack?
Anyway, I've always carried a pocketknife back in the States, not for protection but just for cutting errant strings or price tag things. I leave it in my drawer, though, here in Korea. |

It all makes sense now!
Though I find it harder to use scissors to clean my teeth. |

I live in Vermont. It's a legitimate concern.
Thanks for the advice, everyone! I think I'll probably end up leaving it home. |

Yes but bear vs leatherman? surely pepperspray would be a much better defence.
(quick note, where I come from the most dangerous thing is a single poisonous spider that is nearly extinct and only hangs out in sand dunes) |

I would wager that running like crazy and screaming like a bitch (out of fear, not in any way to scare the bear) would be a better idea than spraying a bit of chilli pepper in the face of a 12ft hunk of adrenaline fueled, heavily muscled, top of the food chain predator.
I got sprayed with mace and it did bugger all to me except give me a slight bit of pain, I still could have bitten someone's head off if I was a massive killer bear. |

Vermont bears are as big as a medium sized dog.
Bring the Leatherman as it will be useful at home with loads of things. |

It was a joke! Vermont bears haven't killed anyone in decades, it's those no-good New Hampshire bears that cause all the trouble.
oskinny1- You're thinking of our rabbits. Our bears are as large as a medium-sized bear. |

Mate I have no idea, our largest native land mammal is a bat that likes to hang out round the ground (which is why it's near extinction rats find them tasty).
to me a bear, it this massive monster that wants to rip your head off because well someone stole its picnic basket. |

There aren't any laws in Korea, so don't worry about it. Don't piss anyone off or go about waving it around and you'll be just fine. I never leave the house without a knife or a Leatherman-type tool just because they're handy for almost anything...ya never know when you'll need something like that.
They sell them all over, at rest stops along the highway and at every mountain-climbing store. It might not follow the letter of the law, but when you see how little anyone does...you kind of stop caring. Staying out of trouble here is pretty much common sense. |
