I'm aware that Nigeria is famous for internet schemes and scammers but is Ghana a home for the same thing?

I use Skype a lot and there's not a week or hardly an evening that goes by that I don't get 4-7 Skype messages with something stupid like "Hi dear....how are you?"

That 'dear' bit, from somebody I don't know really hacks me off, too

Probably 95% of the time the profile for those people says 'Ghana'. Several other times it's been somebody supposedly in England...which I can believe because I know there are a lot of Africans in England.

The other thing I'm wondering is: is it possible to lie on Skype when you list where you're 'from'...i.e. if somebody was in Nigeria or Ghana could they actually list their 'place' as in another country?

And there is one more scam I've experienced a few times:

I've gotten 'greetings' a few times from people who'll use the name of some famous US Army general...... Maxwell Taylor or such. That's so ridiculous that it's just laughable.
