Does anybody know if it is possible to send a text message from a cell phone in Korea, to someone in another country? I have a 016 number. |

I received daily text messages from Korea last time I was in US.
That was from a 010 phone. I couldn't reply or send to Korea, though.
Maybe because Mom's phone is very old. |

It depends on the network you're sending from and to. There's no easy answer. The easiest way is to try it.
E.g. I believe you can send from Verizon to KTF but not to SK or LG. |

You can send text messages to a lot of countries from Korea by dialling 002 +country code + cell phone number
E.g. NZ cell phone number is 021 XXX XXXX; NZ international code is 0064 >>
Send your text by dialling 002 64 21 XXX XXXX.
Bear in mind that if your people at home want to send text messages to you, it depends on their network.
What I mean is, I'm from NZ and I can send text messages to both Vodafone (GSM) and Telecom (CDMA networks) okay, but only my friends with Telecom mobile phones can successfully get replies through to me.
Each international text message costs 200won to send. It's through Dacom company (which is what "002" is) - you can find their English website on the internet. Might pay to check it to see the country you want to text to is listed. |

Another possibility is to sign your mobile up on MSN messenger. That requires the sender to be on MSN, but pretty much everyone is these days anyway. |

You can use this website for free to text most phones in Canada
http://websms.rogers.page.ca/2way/login.php
You have to register with an email address. After that it is easy and free. |

Does not matter what carrier you use. Generally Korea can send texts overseas but not the reverse!
Skype won't let you either. |

I have sent and received messages to and from Canada, using the 002 number described above. Also had skype calls forwarded to my cell phone. |
